Ronn's Blog
Have you ever laughed out loud at a word? I don't mean that the
word itself was funny, or funny sounding - but at the fact that a
certain word was used? I did, just recently.
I've used the word "discombobulated" for years, even though I
didn't really know its exact meaning. I made the assumption that it
meant things had somewhat come apart.
I had just cleared the security area of the Milwaukee airport - you
know, where you have to take off all your "stuff": shoes, belt
buckle, jacket, cell phone, laptop...it all comes off. As I waited
for my little gray box of matter to make it through the x-ray
machine, I looked up and saw the sign that made me laugh:
"Recombobulation Area". Finally! A designated place where I can put
together all the things that have come apart!
Do you realize that you have such an area available to you every
day? I almost said "every week", obviously thinking of Alpine's
weekly church service. But, in reality, it doesn't take a building,
or singing, or even our fellowship together to provide the
opportunity to recombobulate. You may have a lot of outside
pressures leading to a feeling of discombobulation - that feeling
that it's more than just your "stuff" scrambled in a gray box...it
is your "gray matter" itself! But just one moment of stopping the
anxious thoughts; one moment of changing your focus from the "dis"
to the "re"; one moment of saying a quick prayer and re-connecting
the God that is bigger than any issue, and you can experience
"peace that passes understanding". Recombobulation.
Still makes me laugh. I hope you can find something to laugh about
today as well.
See you Sunday*.
Ronn
*Yes, I will actually be there Sunday! Join me for the next four
weeks as we look at a text that is all about recombobulation:
Colossians 3 - and the renewing of our focus. Also - I'll be
teaching the baptism class after the second service. If you haven't
been baptized yet, don't let another year pass by without taking
this important step!

Marriage
Seminar
Saturday, August 14
Would you invest one day to change the course of
your marriage? Last February, Alpine Chapel hosted a special
day-long seminar featuring best-selling author Dr. Gary Chapman
(The Five Love Languages). Addressing vital issues such as
communication, intimacy, and making positive change, Dr. Chapman
made a significant impact on many marriages as he led couples
through a day filled with laughter and learning designed to help us
build the love relationship we all dream of. We think the
information Dr. Chapman presented at that seminar was so important
that we have arranged to present the DVD version of The Marriage You've Always Wanted
right here at Alpine on Saturday, August 14 from 9:00am to 3:30pm.
Tickets are $55/couple or $35/single and includes workbook, lunch,
and a copy of Dr. Chapman's best seller, "The Marriage You've
Always Wanted". Registration is available Sunday in the gym or
online here.
