Lone Star Liberty

Official Newsletter of the Libertarian Party of Texas
July 3, 2013

Greetings!

Last Saturday, the State Libertarian Executive Committee (SLEC) hired a new executive director, Lauren Daugherty.

Lauren has recently moved back to Texas after spending several years working with various non-profits and attending graduate school in the Washington, DC area.

While in DC, Lauren worked as a fundraiser at FreedomWorks and as a programs officer for both the Leadership Institute and Clare Boothe Luce Policy Institute. She has MAs from the Institute of World Politics and Johns Hopkins University. She is a 7th generation Texan.

Lauren is delighted to be joining the Libertarian Party of Texas as executive director. She says, "I am excited to be joining the team at LP Texas. I look forward to getting to know everyone and working together to advance our Party, ideas, and candidates."

You can reach Lauren at director@lptexas.org.

Libertarian Debate in Waco:
Low Tax vs. No Tax

Saturday evening, liberty-lovers from across Texas gathered in Waco to watch "The Ultimate Debate: Low Tax versus No Tax" hosted by the McLennan County Libertarian Party and the Libertarian Party of Texas.

Dr. Steven Bradley and Kurt Hildebrand represented low taxes while Wes Benedict and Nathan Kleffman argued for no taxes.

Happy Independence Day!

Tomorrow, Independence Day, offers a particular opportunity to discuss matters of liberty with our loved ones.

Let's use this opportunity to start conversations with our friends, family, and neighbors, and help remind them that our founders' work is never done and that they too have an important role to play in defending our liberty.

With the numerous scandals being exposed in Washington, Americans everywhere are waking up to the reality of the abuses of power rampant in our government. Let us work together to welcome these new folks into our Party and help them to find a home here where they too can become strong advocates of liberty.  Read more here.

LPT Regional Leadership Conferences

There is a REVOLUTION afoot! Are you prepared to do your part to advance Liberty in Texas?

There are many forms of activism; from communicating the message of Liberty with your friends and neighbors to growing your local Libertarian Party or running for office on the Libertarian ticket.

ANNOUNCING: Texas Libertarian Regional Leadership Conferences
Beginning in late September, the Libertarian Party of Texas will host at least four regional leadership conferences to train and empower local leaders, candidates, and volunteers.

Are you ready to RUN FOR OFFICE?!
Our conferences will consist of various speakers to teach Libertarians how to fully participate in the political process.
  • Candidates will learn how to keep up with State filing requirements, fundraising, and general campaign advice.
  • County leaders will be trained to run business meetings and conventions (candidate nomination), as well as how to grow their local organization.
  • Volunteers will be empowered to become convention delegates and to actively engage in outreach to further the cause of Liberty.

Texas Libertarian State Convention

Attention!! Because of newly enacted state law, our State Convention will be held in April, rather than June, of 2014.

The Libertarian Party of Texas has grown by a number of measures...from vote totals to convention delegate participation.

At our 2014 State Convention, our Party will not only elect officers to lead our growing organization, but we will nominate candidates for statewide office and offer amendments to our Party Platform and Rules. Additionally, we host speakers and facilitate workshops which empower Libertarians to fully participate in the election cycle and to effectively communicate the message of Liberty.

WE WANT YOU to participate in the Texas Libertarian Party!

Message from the Chair

Fellow Texas Libertarians,

THANK YOU!

Many of you helped contribute towards hiring our new executive director, Lauren Daugherty.  We would not have been able to Pat Dixon make this decision without you.  I know that our phone calls and emails may have seemed excessive to some people, but it is an essential part of the work we must do.  I expect the frequency of those calls and emails to taper off for a while.

However, we did not reach our goal.  Heather is working part time and we want to bring her back to full time.  We want to be certain we can keep operating all the way through the 2014 election.  We are making an investment to fix our IT infrastructure.  We have regional conferences coming up in the fall.  Our state convention moved to April 11-13 and we have expenses to consider.

With your help, the "Launch 2014" campaign can be the best ever.  Thank you for your support!

Yours in Liberty,

Pat Dixon
