All One Body: Creating Optimal Health Outcomes, A Symposium for Medical and Dental Health Providers
Friday, October 18, 2013,8:00 am - 3:30 pm Morgan Hill Event Center, Hermon, Maine.

This symposium will address the integration of oral health into overall health in theory and practice. The primary care team - primary care clinicians including physicians, nurses, PA's and pharmacists, along with dental providers must find ways to work together toward the goal of the "triple aim" of health care reform (improving the experience of care, improving the health of populations, and reducing per capita costs). The keynote speaker Dr. John Luther, DDS, Chief Dental Officer at DentaQuest has presented at numerous conferences on such topics as the insurance carrier's role in preventing caries in children and opportunities for medical and dental collaboration. The day will include two plenary sessions: "Tools for Integration" an overview of the components of systems change, including rewards and challenges of Interprofessional training, EHR's, and oral health literacy; and "Mouth Matters: What you didn't learn in school and never had a chance to ask," which will be a lively expert panel discussion including story sharing and an opportunity to ask questions and create dialogue. Breakouts will include an overview of Smiles for Life, a national curriculum for non-dental providers; Impact of Medications on Oral Health, what PCP's need to tell their patients and when physicians and dentists need to talk; Oral Health Tools for Non-Dental Providers, practical knowledge to take back to the work setting; and two breakouts with two experts in oral pathology Working Together, clinical examples and case studies.
