THE GREAT PYRAMID - part 4
When was it built and by whom?
by Dennis Gaumond
Due to the recent discovery of an ancient pyramid in Bosnia, there has been renewed interest in all ancient pyramids and a renewed questioning of the explanations that have been given to us by the scientific establishment. The topsoil on top of the Bosnian pyramid carbon dates to 12,000 years ago. Other organic material on top of the pyramid, found by two Italian archaeologists, Dr. Ricardo Brett and Niccolo Bisconti, dates to 25,000 years ago. This suggests that there was an advanced civilization much older than 6,000 years - the age of the Sumerian - which, conventional thought tells us, is the oldest civilization. In light of this recent discovery, I've decided to share an excerpt from my book, 'Why Is Life?', which synopsizes a great deal of info about the Great Pyramid in Egypt. This will appear in increments over the next several newsletters. Here is the fourth installment:
In the past few newsletters we have looked at the amazing enigma called the Great Pyramid and have addressed the questions, why was it built and how was it built? We continue this month to ask more questions, such as who built the Great Pyramid and when. Convention says that it was commissioned by the pharaoh Khufu, and that it was designed by a guy named 'Imhotep the Builder'. Again, let's set that possibility aside and look at some other ideas.
- Graham Hancock feels that it was built by some unidentified ET group trying to warn us of a celestial collision that is pending. He suggests that the pyramids on Mars are also warnings. Writers such as Sitchin, Alford and Dunn suggest that it was probably built by an E.T. race called the Anunnaki, (Alford does not use the word Anunnaki) who also created Cydonia on Mars.
- According to Murray Hope, an Arab historian from the ninth century named Abd Hokum wrote that the pyramid was built by Surid Ibn Salhouk, an Egyptian king living 300 years before the great flood - about 13,000 years ago.
- When all the continents were together as Pangea, the area at Giza was at the center of the land mass. It is said that there has been activity there for millions of years, with civilizations such as Zu, Ur and Dar. Probably the most popular alternative opinion is that the pyramid was built by Thoth/Hermes, an Atlantean god who helped colonize this area along with a handful of his cohorts. Several ancient texts and legends suggest this. According to the 'building texts' found in the Temple of Edfu, it and other structures were built by the 'seven sages', 'builder gods' who were survivors of a great flood and who came from an island. A fourteenth century Arab scholar by the name of Ibn Batuta writes that 'The pyramids were constructed by Hermes to preserve the arts and sciences and other scientific acquirements during the Flood.'
Thoth has also been mentioned by many psychics and channels, including Drunvalo Melchizadek. Alford names Thoth as the builder of the pyramid and other structures around the world, claiming that he was also a Sumerian god. Some say that, having set the standard with the Great Pyramid, Thoth trained Imhotep the Builder, often referred to as Thoth's successor, who then built some of the subsequent pyramids. It is interesting to note that the newer pyramids are not nearly so complex and impressive as the Great Pyramid and that the knowledge of pyramid construction seems to have deteriorated over the years. Whoever he was, Thoth/Hermes is referred to by countless divers sources, as an entity that has played a great role in our history.
Lastly, let's take a look at some views addressing the question, when was the Great Pyramid built? The current paradigm offers that it was built in 2500 BC, some 600 years after the Upper and Lower Nile were united under the leadership of Menes, the first pharaoh. Other sources feel differently.
- The oldest estimate comes from an Arab writer named Abu Zeyd El Balkhy who translated and interpreted some ancient texts. He claims it was built 73,000 years ago.
- On the 'Tablet of Menes' (3313BC), there is a glyph which shows the pyramid in the background, yet according to conventional Egyptologists it was not supposed to have been built for another 600 years. A stone text called the 'Inventory Stele', now in the Cairo Museum, tells of repairs to the Temple of Isis (also at Giza), which is referred to as the 'mistress of the pyramid'. These repairs were done by Khufu, suggesting that the pyramid was already there. A ninth-century Arab historian, Ibn Abd Hokm, says that the Great Pyramid was built by Surid Ibn Salhouk, a king who lived 300 years before the Great Flood. The most popular alternative theory is that the Great Pyramid was built around 10,500 BC, during the time known as 'zep tepi'.
In the next newsletter we'll take a look at another great enigma, the Sphinx, and I'll offer some personal thoughts on these great mysteries.
