News at a Glance
- Otis by Loren Long will be read on October 3 at the branches as part of the national Jumpstart Read for the Record.
- Information sessions on the health care insurance options and one-on-one enrollment help are being conducted at the libraries by Walden Sierra, the local navigators.
- Wednesday, October 9, is Snapshot Day, a state-wide event to depict a day in Maryland Libraries. We will be taking photos throughout the day at all 3 branches. Smile!
- The last Master Gardener's Clinic this year will be held on Tues, October 8, at Lexington Park. Thank you, Master Gardeners, for providing these valuable clinics.
- Southern MD Food Bank is in dire need of food. All three libraries have collection boxes for donated food items. Why not bring a canned item the next time you visit the library.
- All three libraries will be closed October 14 for Columbus Day.

Storyelling at its Best!
Professional storyteller Janice Curtis Greene will bring the themes of King Peggy to life with her dynamic and engaging stories about following your dreams, respecting tradition, the strength of women, helping others and more.

Ms. Greene is an accomplished storyteller performing for more than 20 years throughout the US and as far away as Zambia, S. Africa, and Egypt. She also is the author of the children's book, Thema and the Wonderful Black Gourd, which is set in Ghana. King Peggy's village is in Ghana. King Peggy is the selected title for One Maryland One Book, a program of the Maryland Humanities Council.
This program is being co-sponsored by Friends of the Library, NAACP of St. Mary's County, Unified Committee of Afro-American Contributions, and The Minority Outreach Coalition.

Air It Out: The Clothesline Project
Walden Sierra's "Air It Out: The Clothesline Project," is on display through the end of the month in the Lexington Park Library Art Gallery. The display was created by women who have survived violence or by those who wish to honor women victimized by violence. October is Domestic Violence Month.
Artists interested in displaying their artwork are asked to contact Candy Cummings at 301-863-6693.
