Back from a great ALMS weekend at Road America. The beautiful weather brought out the largest crowd RA has ever seen for that event. We'll be going back to Elkhart Lake the weekend after Labor Day for the VSCDA Vintage Festival. Hopefully, the 2013 schedule (and gas prices) will allow us to return to Watkins Glen that weekend next year.
A couple weeks ago, AutoArt put a 'News Release' on their website to discuss the state of the model industry today and their vision for the future. Generally, they feel the hobby will split between 'toy quality' models and high-detail 'museum quality' pieces. Although we are beginning to see considerable sticker-shock on some lines of 1/43 scale 'collector' quality models, it's my opinion that wide gap between toy and museum quality is far from dead. Collectors will continue to support this range, perhaps being a bit more selective than they used to be, but as the economy improves (fingers crossed) and Chinese inflation (still crossed) eases, the good stuff in that price / quality range will continue to be popular.
AutoArt was really saying that their intention was to increase the level of detail in their future releases. This goal is evident in a new series of 1/18 scale Type 1 Jaguar E-Types hitting the US this week:
First up are three highly detailed 1/18 scale E-Type Roadsters
in Red, Silver and Cream. A trio of Coupes will follow. All are right hand drive and feature opening doors, bonnet and boot.
