WEEK 2
January 19, 2018
Legislation at the State level:

1.    Water Quality: SUPPORT: SF512
·        No movement/update
 i. Rep. Baltimore is floor manager of this bill, has not run SF512 for a vote
ii. If SF512 passes at the House, it would go to the Governor for final approval

2.    Tax Reform
·        Watching for potential bills that could increase taxes for our members

3.    Balanced Budget
·         Updated: budget cut estimates modified $20-37 million this year

Both chambers getting down to business this week with a short schedule although not much happening with our focus areas at the moment.

Fun Fact Friday: legislators cannot take more than 3 days off without approval of both chambers. That meant legislature was in session on Friday, January 12 th ahead of the MLK Jr. holiday on Monday.

Legislation at the Federal level:

1.    Tax Reform
  • Section 199A: Monitoring closely and supporting this reform as it is—we believe what’s good for a section of ag is good for the whole economy
  • Lots of talk about working together on this—will be interesting to see if 199A stays put, is modified or thrown in the garbage
