Victor Jr (10) makes his escape.
(Bowling Green, KY) Every member of the Kent Family Magic Circus above the age of ten (excluding disabled son Titus) has performed the stunt that made Houdini famous, the upside-down strait-jacket escape. On July 23, one day after turning ten, Victor Kent Jr. celebrated his birthday by having himself lifted 60 feet in the air upside down above the pond at Beech Bend Park wrapped tightly in a real ungimmicked strait-jacket.  The stunt puts him as the youngest documented presenter of this stunt.

He attempted the stunt hanging from the family trapeze rig during a show the day before but failed to win his release.  So he practiced three more times the actual morning of the stunt in nearly 100 degree heat and again failed twice until finally, with much perspiration, he won his own release the third try.
He takes the record from his brother who at the age 0f 10 and 3 months escaped from the very same strait jacket seven years ago in Huntsville, TX.
The family makes this stunts available to clients who want an unusual publicity stunt for their event or business.

Jim Kent performs the Samoan Fire-knife dance

In our full blown production routine called "Bananas to the Beat" Jugglin' Jim does the Samoan Fire-knife dance, Victor Sr blows fire, Victor Jr is torch bearer, and Cynthia has her head removed.  It's a routine where magic, juggling, dance, fire-eating, and more combine in a remarkable theatrical number.

"I think it is fabulous", says Victor Sr., "to have all the kids involved in one routine instead of each one coming out one at a time doing their individual talents."

Banana Queen about to loose her head.

Twelve years ago the Flamingo Hotel in Las Vegas featured a Polynesian-Caribean themed illusion show that has long since vanished.  One of the Illusions featured in that show was a multi-pronged illusion where a woman dressed in Cabana frills ala Carmen Miranda got her head twisted, then removed and placed on a bamboo table where it moved around. Her head was replaced onto her body, but at that very moment the dress collapsed and the girl was gone, head and all.  Instantly shewas found standing among the audience.
That illusion was specifically designed for a theater stage. It also had a skeleton made of metal tubing which made it very heavy.
Fast forward 2011 and the Kent Family Magic Circus is lucky enough to buy the props from one of it's many owners down the line.  It's weight and need for a theater stage made it a rare sight at shows.
So Victor de-boned the metal from the prop and redesigned part of it so it can be performed surrounded like in a circus or fair setting. Hence was born "Bananas to the Beat" A.K.A. the Bamboo Illusion. It has all the elements of the original version that played in Las Vegas, but now has the addition of dance, fire, and a surprise magical appearance.  The "Banana Queen" is made to appear out of fire in a bamboo cage.  This is a must see and is being  audience tested and developed this season for 2012.
