Applications for the Franchise Fee 2016 have Reopened

What is the Franchise Fee? The Franchise Fee Credit Program, a City of Topeka program that provides eligible households a standardized credit by utility. Each approved household can qualify for up to $175 in credit for the calendar year 2015. We have received additional funds for the program.

CRC has obtained more funding for 2016 credits, we will continue to accept walk-ins here at Avondale East, Tuesdays and Thursdays 9 am - 3 pm.

100% Overall Satisfaction Rate of the Advocacy Series!

With 64% of survey results in, 100% of those responding indicated they were highly satisfied from the learning experience the 3-part Advocacy Series sponsored by CRC in partnership YWCA afforded them.

Further, survey results indicated our attendees found the interactive exchange with the presenters and panelists the most beneficial. They also enjoyed the convenience of the location at the YWCA, the networking opportunities, and the ticket price was a fitting deal for the education they received.

We are already receiving request for another series! With such an overwhelming positive response, CRC and YWCA plan on holding another Advocacy Series sometime mid-year 2017, post legislative season.

Harvesters Mobile Food Pantry Rescheduled

Because of the upcoming holiday season Harvesters will be allocating food to Avondale East on a different date.

Harvesters has set the distribution date to

Monday, December 12th from 3 pm - 4 pm, here at Avondale East. Harvesters' plan on everything running the same except for the date change.

10th Annual Snow Relief Team

The City of Topeka, Jayhawk Area Agency on Aging, and Topeka Independent Living Resource Center have joined together to provide limited snow removal services to Topeka residents who have limited incomes and who do not have able-bodied relatives to assist them in their time of need.

The team will consist of four crews of women inmates from the Topeka Correctional Facility and two male inmate crews from Shawnee County Department of Corrections. Their task will be to remove snow on public sidewalks adjacent to properties of qualifying Topeka citizens.
