October 2012
Dear Friend,

Right now, secondary students across the country are learning about the Emancipation Proclamation and the issue of human trafficking with a project we created called, 100 Days to Freedom.  As part of the project, students are collaborating to create a "New Proclamation of Freedom" which will state the urgent problem of human trafficking and ask the US Department of Education to facilitate a National Human Trafficking Education program.

The completed Proclamation will then become part of an online petition that is circulated nationally by Change.org in order to gather support in the form of signatures for this request by students and FDFF to the US Department of Education.  On January 1, 2013, the National Parks Service and FDFF will host ceremonies and events for Emancipation Day with the document and signatures in hand. Our hope is to have President Obama sign the New Proclamation as an important historical parallel to Abraham Lincoln's signing of the Emancipation Proclamation exactly 150 years earlier at the White House.

FDFF IN AUSTRIA

Ken Morris has been invited to deliver a keynote address at the upcoming Alliance against Trafficking in Persons Conference which will take place October 11-12, 2012 in Vienna, Austria.  The speech will give voice to the heroic lives of Ken's great ancestors, Frederick Douglass and Booker T. Washington, and focus on our human trafficking prevention and education service-learning curriculum in schools.  Ken will also talk about our vision for replicating this prevention and education model in schools in the U.S. and Internationally.

The event is being organized by the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE).  In an effort to reach a wider audience for the conference, the event will be offered through a live web stream on the OSCE conference web page:

Help the Frederick Douglass Family Foundation affect change through human trafficking awareness while directly supporting our educational programs in schools. Together we will:

  1. Protect girls from becoming the victims of minor sex trafficking;
  2. Teach young men that their choices could increase demand for exploited girls and women;
  3. Empower young people to make a difference in the world around them.

Please consider donating so we can continue to offer our service-learning curriculum at no charge.  Your help is essential.
