Mr. Mostafa A. El-Sayed

Mr. Mostafa A. El-Sayed was recently awarded as the 2016 Priestley Medalist, the American Chemical Society's highest honor.  For more than 50 years, the pioneer in laser spectroscopy, nanoscience, and cancer treatment has inspired students.  El-Sayed is also the director of Georgia Institute of Technology's Laser Dynamics Laboratory as well as a  Regents' Professor and the Julius Brown Chair at Georgia Tech. Mr. Zaheer Faruqi
 
Mr. Zaheer Faruqi's company, Aventure Aviation, was recognized on Tuesday, March 8th as a GLOBE (Georgia Launching Opportunities By Exporting) award recipient for entering three new international markets in 2015: Panama, Philippines, and South Korea.  Please read the press release about the recognition here. The photo above is of Zaheer Faruqi accompanied by Amyr Qureshi, Sr. VP (to the right of First Lady Sandra Deal) and Ron Taylo, VP Military Business Development (center) and Governor Nathan Deal.

Ms. Qaadirah Abdur-Rahim

Ms. Qaadirah Abdur-Rahim, the CEO of  Future Foundation, will be receiving the  YWCA's annual Women of Achievement award. Rahim will be honored and inducted into the academy among several women including First Lady of Georgia Sandra Deal.  Abdur-Rahim will be inducted into the YWCA Academy of Women Achievers for embodying YWCA's mission to eliminate racism and empower women. Dr. Gulshan  Harjee 

 
Dr. Gulshan Harjee was selected as the 2015 recipient of the John Houston Allen Humanitarian Award by the Atlanta Interfaith Broadcasters Inc. (AIB). The award "recognizes distinguished achievement and meritorious service by an organization or individual that bridges religious, ethnic and social backgrounds and makes our world a better place." Dr. Harjee received the award for her work that ensures that the unemployed, homeless, and the refugee communities of Clarkson get the healthcare they need and for financially supporting impoverished students pursuing an education in healthcare. Ms. Azadeh Shahshahani

Ms. Azadeh Shahshahani completed her term as President of the National Lawyers Guild in late October. She was the first Muslim, first woman of color, and first immigrant to serve in this role. She started serving as Legal & Advocacy Director with Project South in January. She has recently joined the Advisory Council for the American Association of Jurists.


Imam Plemon El-Amin

Imam Plemon El-Amin was recently appointed as the newest board member of the Muslim Public Affairs Council. MPAC improves the public understanding of Islam and shapes policies impacting American Muslims by engaging our government, media and communities.
