Pure Inspiration
Todd Durkin, owner of Fitness Quest 10 in San Diego, one of the top ten gyms in the U.S., trained LaDainian Tomlinson from 2003-2010. Mr. Durkin recently posted an article on his website about LT, 21 Memories, traits and stories I love to share about #21. It's a story of an athlete who trained hard and became one of the best in his field. I found it truly inspirational and think you will too.
INSPIRATION FOR THE REST OF US Well, it's all well and good for a professional athlete to workout religiously and vigorously, but how about the rest of us? Most of us don't have a lot of time for working out and probably most of us don't approach exercise with the same intensity a pro does.
The good news is a little exercise goes a long way! A recent study suggests that as little as 15 minutes a day reduces the risk of cancer and adds about 3 years to your life.
I'm not suggesting that serious exercisers cut back on their workouts. I'm just suggesting that if exercise is not a part of your life right now, you might consider adding a very doable 15 minutes a day to your daily routine. The results will be well worth the effort!

Questions & Answers
Clients often ask me fitness questions when we are working together. While these questions have a personal interest for that client, the answers may resonate with many of you. So I thought I'd share, anonymously of course! Here's a question I was asked just last week - you can tell it's swim suit season!
Question: How do I get rid of my belly fat?
Answer: Think of a three pronged solution. 1. Diet. Probably the most important. I recently read a very informative article that recommends the 7 word diet - "Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants." 2. Cardiovascular Exercise. Run, walk, skip, jump, hop, climb stairs, bike... "To maintain your general health and decrease your risk of chronic disease, the AHA (American Heart Association) and the ACSM (American Council of Sports Medicine) recommend that you perform 30 minutes of moderate intensity exercise, 5 days a week. If your aerobic exercise is at a vigorous intensity, you should exercise for at least 20 minutes, a minimum of 3 days a week." 3. Abdominal exercises. All the latest research points to a functional approach to building a strong core. Two great exercises for abdominal strength are the plank and the ab wheel. I've written about them in previous newsletter, if you need a copy click here.
Perhaps you have questions too. Please email your questions to me and I will do my best to answer them in the next newsletter.
