United Methodist teenager killed, becomes national hero after saving others

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- Zaevion Dobson, age 15, died one week before Christmas. He was shot in the head when he used his body to shield three girls from gang-related gunfire.

His funeral was attended by 2,500 people on Dec. 26. President Obama  praised the teenager's heroism in a speech on Jan. 5. CBS featured Dobson and his family in a  special video during the Super Bowl on Feb. 7.
Open meeting on March 12: 'Share your heart' with delegation

ALCOA, Tenn. -- For two hours on Saturday, March 12, members of Holston churches will have an opportunity to express their thoughts and concerns to the delegation representing them at General Conference.

"March 12 will be a time for church members to share but not to debate," said the Rev. David Graves, head of Holston's delegation.

Pastors gather for worship, education and news

PIGEON FORGE, Tenn. -- Pastors learned about "Preaching in a Time of Change" and worshiped with their peers and bishop. They saw the big building their conference is investing in -- as well as a proposed map of how Holston might change its districts from 12 to seven.

They also celebrated the completion of an Appalachian Trail journey and the beginning of a new one.
