Your Kentucky EMS Education Connection!

This is the first edition of the KBEMS Education Matters Newsletter.  KBEMS will be communicating with Emergency Medical Services-Training Educational Institutions and Educators on a monthly basis through the KBEMS Education Matters Newsletter.  

The newsletter will contain: educational resources; regulatory guidance and clarification on topics related to training, continuing education, certification and licensure; and will be a platform to disseminate national educational guidelines and practices.

National Registry of EMT's and KBEMS have some exciting news for you!
NCCP: A new way to recertify!
On April 1, 2016 Kentucky became a National Registry of EMT’s (NREMT) National Continued Competency Program (NCCP) State. 
Early Hours: Start obtaining CE hours immediately after completing your NREMT recertification process! 
On June 1, 2016 Kentucky became a National Registry of EMT’s (NREMT) Early Hours Program Pilot State. 
 Coming soon: Major c hange in process for m anaging NREMT candidates !
On November 1, 2016 EMS-TEI program directors will be able to approve NREMT student course completion and practical skills completion. 
EMS in last place: When it comes to number of emergency providers trained in the National Traffic Incident Management Responder Training Program (TIM).
On January 15, 2016 KBEMS initiated a statewide project to improve EMS responder safety on roadway incidents by partnering with the Kentucky Division of Federal Highways and EMS services across the state to provide the National Traffic Incident Management Responder Training Program (TIM) in all EMS regions across the state .
 
KBEMS Education Committee:
The education committee is a standing committee of the board.  The Education Committee shall consist of seven (7) voting member’s representative of EMS Educators in the state of Kentucky. At least one (1) voting member of the Education Committee shall also be a member of the Kentucky Board of Emergency Medical Services. 
KENTUCKY NREMT BLS TESTING COORDINATORS:  
Effective October 1, 2016 KBEMS is requiring all NREMT basic life support skill testing events to be reported to KBEMS thirty (30) days before the testing event.  If the skill testing is open to the public, it will be advertised on the KBEMS news and events calendar.

Please include type of testing available (EMR-EMT), physical location, any participant fees, test site coordinator name and contact information (phone and e-mail).  Send NREMT basic life support skill testing events to [email protected] thirty (30) days before the testing event.

KBEMS is revising the Kentucky NREMT BLS testing process and would like to have experienced BLS exam coordinators to serve on the NREMT BLS testing project team.  If you are interested send your request to [email protected] by September 15, 2016.
