A Note From Your First Grade Teachers
First Grade Connections
January 26th, 2017
Dear First Grade Families,

We are not slowing down for a moment! Our Neighborhood Study is keeping us incredibly busy. Even though we didn't make it to the water treatment plant last week, we were able to learn about the process in class and completed an amazing follow up activity in the iLab and our classrooms. This week we walked down Main Street, Half Moon Bay to research the things we will need for our neighborhood build, the week of February 13th.

Thanks so much for sending in raw cardboard shoeboxes (not shiny because the paint doesn't stick). Please keep them coming, along with all the other wonderful recycled items that you think might be useful to us. Additionally, thank you for supporting us with our Community Faces project, by encouraging your children to complete them each week and sending them back on time. You will be delighted to see them presented all together at our Academic Celebration on February 17th.

Sincerely,

Your First Grade Team
Stephanie Hanepen, Lesley Stevens and Vienna Klingele
What We Have Been Learning
Ask Your Child About

Talking with your child is the best way to support classroom learning. The following questions can help you get started.

  • Looking at solid shapes: Does it roll? Does is stack? Does it slide?
  • What decoding strategies can you use to figure out challenging words?
  • What is a digraph? Give me an example? Let's brainstorm some words!
  • What is the difference between wants and needs?  What are goods and services?
