A chartered Portuguese flight Thursday became the first

international flight to depart from Sendai airport of Miyagi
Prefecture since it was damaged by the March 11 earthquake-tsunami
disaster.
The Hi Fly airline flight left for Malaga, Spain, with about 120
tourists aboard.
The next charter international flight from the airport will be a
Swiss Edelweiss Air flight scheduled to leave for Zurich on Wednesday, an airport official said.
Sendai airport became available for nonregular domestic flights April 13 before All Nippon Airways and Japan Airlines resume regular domestic flights to and from the airport July 25.
Regular international flights to and from the airport are expected to resume in October.
Power source equipment has yet to be revived at the airport terminal building. ''We want to fully restore the building by the end of September,'' said Katsuhiko Ito, president of Sendai Airport
Building Co.
