There will be a bill introduced shortly by Rep. Stephen Bloom (R-Cumberland) asking for $1.5 million in state funding to support the already $3 million raised each year to run the PA 2-1-1 system. While United Ways have done a great job, thus far , there is a need for additional funding to bring the 2-1-1 system to 100% of Pennsylvanians with consistent experiences no matter where they are located. It is also imperative to have 24/7 coverage throughout the state to support those in need no matter when an issue arises.
Please support the PA 2-1-1 system and spending the $1.5 million to help citizens throughout the Commonwealth!
2-1-1 is a dialing code used to connect people with health and human services information and referrals.
2-1-1 was designated for national use by the Federal Communications Commission in 2000 and was implemented in Pennsylvania in 2002.
The 2-1-1 system has three major objectives:
1. Connect people in need to health and human service assistance available through government programs and private non-profit organizations in their communities;
2. Provide assistance to communities in times of disaster, allowing 9-1-1 to work primarily with first responders;
3. Connect volunteers and donors to organizations who can leverage resources to meet the needs of the community.
PA 2-1-1 serves 85% of Pennsylvanians and covers six regions throughout the state, including: Southwest, Central, South Central, Northeast, East, Southeast.
