Dramalogue - Talking Theatre!
The O'Neill Family: A Long Day's Journey
presentation by Mark Perlberg

Tuesday, February 2
at the Don & Ann Brown Theatre
In Long Day's Journey Into Night, Eugene O'Neill examines the complex relationships within a damaged, tragic family. That family was very much inspired by his own. Mark Perlberg separates fact from fiction and provides further insight into the play and the difficult dynamics among the O'Neills in The O'Neill Family: A Long Day's Journey, the third program of Palm Beach Dramaworks' popular series, Dramalogue - Talking Theatre! The program will be presented twice on Tuesday, February 2 (2pm and 7pm) at the Don & Ann Brown Theatre.

PBD's production of Long Day's Journey Into Night opens two days later, on February 4, and runs through March 6.

In his Dramalogue program, Perlberg will delve into the riveting, mostly troubled lives of all the O'Neills - Eugene, his parents, brother, wives, and children. He will also discuss a one-act play called Exorcism, which was written in 1919, considered lost, and rediscovered in 2011. Joining him to perform vignettes from O'Neill's life and from Exorcism are John Leonard Thompson and Carey Urban, who are appearing in Long Day's Journey Into Night; and Peter W. Galman, who was seen at PBD in Our Town. The presentation will be followed by a Q&A.
Dramalogue is a lively series that explores all aspects of theatre in conversations with or about the industry's top professionals and master artists. The first two programs of the season featured conversations with Paul Gemignani, Broadway's venerated musical director, and the legendary Tommy Tune.

The series continues on March 1 with William Ivey Long: Creating Character Through Costumes. The prolific, brilliantly imaginative costume designer will talk to Sheryl  Flatow about his work on a variety of memorable shows. On March 29, four directors very familiar to Florida audiences will take part in Theatre Roundtable: Directly Speaking. PBD Producing Artistic Director William Hayes and J. Barry Lewis will be joined by GableStage Producing Artistic Director Joseph Adler and Actors' Playhouse Artistic Director David Ariscotodiscuss the many facets of their work. Hayes and Lewis will serve as co-hosts. The series concludes on April 12 with Rodgers & Hammerstein: The Golden Age of Musical Theatre. Lewis returns to explore the groundbreaking collaboration of composer Richard Rodgers and lyricist Oscar Hammerstein II. The program will include live music.

Mark Perlberg is the executive producer of Dramalogue, which is sponsored by Nancy and Jay Parker. Presentations may include videos clips and/or scene readings. Audiences are invited to participate in a Q&A at the conclusion of each event.

All programs are at 2pm and 7pm on Tuesdays. Individual tickets are $20.

What, exactly, does a director do? Be honest; you've asked yourself that question numerous times. Yes, you know they're responsible for illuminating the playwright's vision and melding the cast into a cohesive unit. But what does that entail? Four veteran directors - Joseph Adler, David Arisco, William Hayes, and J. Barry Lewis - will supply the details and discuss their responsibilities in taking a play from page to stage.
