So uh, you may have heard, but WE ARE MOVING.  We'll be here at Providore for 18 more days, close up shop on the 31st, and re-emerge at 3004 East Burnside some time in February with a fish market, oyster bar, and restaurant. That is what's up. And to get us there, we've got All! These! Events! Here we go, here we go...

  • PORTLAND BAZAAR THIS WEEKEND: The 9th annual Portland Bazaar goes live this weekend with cocktails, fresh wreaths, all kinds of holiday shopping - and Flying Fish's Family Recipe Smoked Salmon. For sample and for sale, we gotchu. Come on by - this Saturday and Sunday, 11am-4pm, 800 SE 10th Ave. 
     
  • SUPPORT LOCAL FISHERS DIRECTLY - TOMORROW: If you've read this email with any regularity, you know how much we love the guys and gals at Tre-Fin Foods (pictured at right), heading out to sea on their day boat to bring us back fresh Albacore Tuna, Rockfish, Black Cod and more. Tomorrow (Saturday), they'll be in the shop sampling their Smoked Black Cod and selling CSF boxes with the aforementioned fish. Tomorrow, 10am-2pm at Flying Fish (at Providore).
     
  • BATTLE OF THE BAYS II, BICOASTAL BOOGALOO: A very big shoutout and thank you to the folks at the Rogue Pearl Public House for their support. Rogue and Flying Fish are teaming up for another bivalve Battle of the Bays, only this time, it's Portland vs Portland. Come sample oysters from Oregon and Maine, choose your favorites, and help Flying Fish in the process, as a portion of the proceeds will go toward our big move. That's Saturday, January 4th, 4-9pm at Rogue (1339 NW Flanders St).
     
  • Call it the People's Fish
    FUNDRAISER DINNER @ NEW LOCATION: This one is the first real time we'll have the new spot open, so come on by for a taste of the new menu! Samples, tastings, live music, raffle prizes and more. This is coming

  • FLYING FISH SUSHI CLASS RETURNS: We're stoked to bring back Flying Fish Sushi Class at the new location. Master Class Chef Kevin Trinh of Hook & Line Sushi Catering is back at the helm, and Flying Fish's own Erik Englund joins him for an evening of proper sushi training - and eating, since you'll eat what you roll. It's a Flying Fish classic and it makes its Burnside debut Saturday January 18th at 5pm. And, new for 2020, kids pricing available! $75 for adults, $60 for youth. Details and signup HERE.
     
  • NEW SPOT POPUP DINNER: This one's going next level. Chefs Andre & Erik will prepare a 10-course menu featuring sushi, all new cooked fish plates, and much more. Details shortly - consider this a save the date. That's Saturday, January 25th - signup available next week.  
  • BUY FISH ON SATURDAYS IN JANUARY WHILE WE GET THE NEW SHOP READY: The headline says it all. As we transition between locations, we want to support our dedicated staff and keep you in the fresh sustainable fish. Actual products will be sent out ahead of time, but plan on seeing us on Saturdays January 18th & 25th, 10am-5pm. Potential/probable products include our Family Recipe Smoked Salmon, Dungeness Crab, Ahi Tuna, Steelhead, Ora King Salmon, Rockfish, and more. Stay tuned.

ALL RIGHT! Since we overloaded that first section with things to do and things to think about, we'll just get to it and unload the freshness. Fish up first, as it should be, starting with year-round Ora King Salmon, sustainably raised in the coldwaters offshore of New Zealand's North Island. Flash seared with sea salt and lemon. That's it. Don't need nothin' else. 

Also, no Hawaiian fishes this week (they'll be back shortly), but we do have Yellowfin and Albacore Tuna shipped direct from Tahiti (just south of Hawaii), both good Greens from the Monterey Bay Aquarium Seafood Watch.

ABOUT US

Craig Gildersleeve opened Flying Fish Company in Sandpoint, Idaho in 1979 - the year before his son Lyf was born. Lyf, president of Flying Fish Company, has spent his entire life around fish, including an aquaculture education at the Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institute at Florida Atlantic University. 

Flying Fish has four locations: Sandpoint, Idaho; Durango, Colorado; Park City, Utah; and Portland, Oregon. The Portland location opened in 2009 as a food cart at the D Street pod on Division Street. In 2011, we opened the fish shack on Hawthorne Boulevard. In 2016, we joined forces with our friends at Providore Fine Foods on Sandy Boulevard, and in 2017, we moved all our operations there. One location, one family, everything you need.
