Dear Riders,
Shadow Tour is proud to announce the opening of registration for the 3rd Annual 2011 Fiesta Metric Century, which will Start & Finish in beautiful Downtown San Diego, by the Bay. The date is Saturday, June 11, 2011. Last year was a sell-out, so sign up early!
We're also pleased to welcome Ellsworth Handcrafted Bicycles as the Title Sponsor for this year's ride! Ellsworth previously sponsored the Fiesta and Stagecoach century rides. We're thrilled to have Ellsworth back and look forward to our partnership. Many Thanks to Tony, Summer, Greg, and the whole Ellsworth Team.
For Sturdy Veteran Shadow Tour riders, the Fiesta Metric is a much less intimidating event, with a genuine family & friends focus. We've begun a special Harbor Attractions section on the website, listing a ton of fun ideas for non-riding friends & family to enjoy while riders do their thing.
Maybe try a Hornblower 1 & 2 hour harbor cruise, Seaport Village Shopping, visit the San Diego Maritime Museum, the Star of India and USS Midway, or the Little Italy Farmer's Market, perhaps a relaxing lunch at Anthony's Grotto on the Bay, there are a multitude of cool attractions within easy walking distance. So come join the "Mellow Metric", an ideal way to sample San Diego's Finest summer cycling, all in a very managable, compact morning/afternoon on the Bay.
The 3rd Annual Fiesta also welcomes back our friends at El Indio Restaurant, who will cater the included Fiesta Mexican Buffet right at the Finish Line for all registered riders. The Healthy Living expo/festival will feature a DJ, live music performed by Manny Cepeda's Salsa Trio, sponsor booths, and a nice covered area for riders to sit down with friends & family and enjoy the Fiesta Buffet, sun, and cool breezes off the San Diego Bay. Summer cycling just doesn't get any better than this!
The Fiesta Metric offers shorter routes at a lower price for beginners. All routes are easy, out-and-back design, and allow riders to modify distances. if needed. This is a perfect opportunity for new cyclists to join in an organized ride. Check out UrideTV's video from the 2010 Fiesta to get just a taste of the positive energy of the participants.
The Fiesta Metric Century offers a delightful ride along the San Diego Bay, Sweetwater Bikepath, Otay Lakes, to the turnaround under the shadetrees at Pio Poco Thousand Trails RV and Campground, and a return along the same route to the Finish Line Fiesta by the Bay.
There are 4 fully-stocked Rest Stops along the well marked route to refuel and rehydrate. Friendly volunteers will gladly assist to make your ride an enjoyable and memorable experience.
Here's what's included with your paid entry:
