This coming Tuesday, March 8th, is Voting Day in Salem.  Please plan to participate!  Updated School Warrant Articles from the Salem School District are below for your review.
               SCHOOL WARRANT ARTICLES OVERVIEW

 

 

Things You Should Know:

 

  • Warrant articles on official ballots are often confusing.  The following offers a version of each article in understandable terms and is being provided as a helpful voting guide.
  • Your vote can make the difference!  Please vote on March 8th.
  • You may register to vote at your polling place on voting day.  Proof of age, domicile, and citizenship is required (i.e., license or birth certificate and utility bill confirming your street address).
  • Absentee ballots may be requested through the Town Clerk's office and must be returned by 5:00 PM on March 7th (NOTE: They will NOT be accepted on voting day).

 

Overview of Warrant Articles

 

Article #1  

To choose all necessary School District Officers for the coming year.

 

Article #2

To approve the School District's Operating Budget in the amount of $59,048,800 for the

2011-2012 fiscal year.  [NOTE:  This amount reflects the amended operating budget proposed by the Salem School Board.]

 

NOTE: The following articles are not included in the School District's Operating Budget

 

Article #3

To approve salary and benefit related costs for teachers, nurses and student services specialists in the amount of $240,329 for the 2011-2012 fiscal year (the first year of a 2 year agreement) and to approve $207,980 for the 2012-2013 fiscal year (the final year of this agreement).  [NOTE: This unit has not received raises for the past 2 years.  Only the increase for FY 2011-2012 will be realized on this year's tax bill.]

                                                           

Article #4

To approve salary and benefit related costs for secretaries in the amount of $20,597 for the

2011-2012 fiscal year.  [NOTE:  This unit has not received raises for the past 3 years.]

           

Article #5

To approve salary and benefit related costs for aides in the amount of $20,265 for the 2011-2012 fiscal year (the first year of a 2 year agreement)  and to approve $33,929 for the 2012-2013 fiscal year (the final year of this agreement).  [NOTE:  This unit has not received raises for the past

2 years.  Only the increase for the 2011-2012 FY will be realized on this year's tax bill.]

 

Article #6

To approve salary and benefit related costs for custodians in the amount of $34,898 for the

2011-2012 fiscal year.  [NOTE: This unit has not received raises for the past 3 years.]

 

Article #7

To approve salary and benefit related costs for food service personnel in the amount of $14,389 for the 2011-2012 fiscal year.  [NOTE:  This contract is funded by the food service program and has no impact on the tax rate.]
