The History of Laurie and more!
Starting out in the vegetable garden with my Dad and cooking with my Mom, I quickly became interested in food. Once married and with children, I cooked every recipe I could get my hands on. When this was not enough, I headed to culinary school at AB-Tech. I landed an internship at Highland Lake Inn, which eventually turned into running the organic kitchen for many years. With my new found knowledge and experience, it was time to open my own place. Then came Cafe Laurie and Gourmet to Go! It was a fun and lively restaurant on the corner of Grove Street in Hendersonville, NC. It quickly became the place to be where you could get gourmet and handcrafted food on the go!
The cafe was a great time, but it also became time to sell. After some years out of the restaurant business, I decided to self-publish Laurie Bakke's Cookbook. I am currently promoting the cookbook, catering more, working on cooking glasses and waiting for the next step to happen. Stay tuned!
