Jane Stankiewicz

2013 Southcoast Woman of the Year

Please join us in congratulating Community Nurse & Hospice Care's President & CEO, Jane Stankiewicz, for being named the 2013 Southcoast Woman of the Year by the Standard Times for recognizing that healthcare does not end with a hospital stay and working hard with our staff to provide the highest quality in-home care after surgery, when a loved one is facing a terminal illness or you require additional assistance to stay independent at home.

This nomination was submitted on behalf of the entire staff, board of directors, grateful patients and their families, friends, business associates and peers. When asked they all agreed: Jane really is a remarkable and special person who deserves to be celebrated.

The same qualities and observations were noted over and over: easy to approach, noticeable presence, honest and open, a forward thinker, a smart business women, a staunch advocate and generous on both a professional and personal level. She always seems to be thinking ahead and planning for the future. She has a great positive outlook that is contagious. Jane is a very easy person to talk with and she listens to different ideas. She is empathetic to employee, patient and family concerns, but is also mindful of fairness to all. She has a unique ability to consider new and different options with a 'let's try it' attitude. Her approachable demeanor is inviting to all. She has an open, collegial and collaborative leadership style. She respects patients' choice and is committed to high quality, accessible home care for our community. She educates, empowers, cares for and invests in our patients and our staff. She is a true motivator, tireless cheerleader and invaluable mentor.

During Jane's tenure, home healthcare has not always been easy. There have been good times, lean times, challenging times and desperate times. Many home care agencies have not survived the fray. But because of Jane, our agency has evolved and grown to over 200 strong, to a service area of over fifteen towns, to offer three core services - visiting nurse, hospice care and private care - to embrace a comprehensive approach to the community's most urgent health needs and is recognized on as one of the top home care agencies in the country.

Jane has the keen ability to identify future challenges in the home care and hospice arena and translate that information into opportunities for advancement in the care offered to our patients. As a result, the agency has set a high standard for the way home care is delivered. Over the past 28 years, because of Jane's commitment, dedication and guidance, this group of dedicated and satisfied professionals has improved the quality of home healthcare that it now available to all residents of the South Coast. But coupled with this responsibility and through Jane's collegial leadership style, she has also created a high quality of work life as evidenced by the award of Top Place to Work from the Boston Globe.

Jane long ago recognized that home care is a vital part of high quality healthcare and is only becoming more and more important. She recognizes the importance of keeping in tune with the community's needs and has developed programs that reflect these needs including hospice, psychiatric, Alzheimer/dementia, chronic disease - to name a few. She has worked and continues to work hard to ensure that everyone in our community has the right service at the right time.
