The esteemed Award Recipients at the 2014 John Mackey Award Gala on April 12, 2014 

Baltimore, MD (April 14, 2014) - The 2014 John Mackey Award Gala saw over 250 individuals on hand at the Baltimore Marriott Waterfront to share in the festivities as several awards were presented to outstanding individuals in the world of sports. 

The evening began as Baltimore Ravens broadcaster Gerry Sandusky welcomed the audience and presented the John Mackey Leadership Award to Ravens GM and NFL Hall of Fame Tight End Ozzie Newsome. The John Mackey Outstanding Journalism Award was then presented to Stephen A. Smith and Skip Bayless of ESPN's First Take. However, the highlight of the event was  the fourteenth annual presentation of the John Mackey Award to Austin Seferian-Jenkins of the University of Washington. Seferian-Jenkins made an emotional thank-you speech and participated in a live question and answer session with the host on stage in front of the entire audience. Proceeds from the event supported the Omega Baltimore Foundation. 

The John Mackey Award is given to the collegiate tight end who best exemplifies the play, sportsmanship, academics, and community values of NFL Hall of Fame Tight End John Mackey. The 2013 John Mackey Award recipient was determined by confidential balloting of the John Mackey Selection Committee.  

 

The John Mackey Award presented since 2000, lists twelve alumni to have played in the NFL: two-time Super Bowl Champion Daniel Graham ('01), 2006 Super Bowl Champion Dallas Clark ('02) of the Baltimore Ravens, Kellen Winslow II ('03) of the New York Jets, two-time Super Bowl Champion Heath Miller ('04) of the Pittsburgh Steelers, Marcedes Lewis ('05) of the Jacksonville Jaguars, 2008 Super Bowl Champion Matt Spaeth ('06) of the Pittsburgh Steelers, Fred Davis ('07) of the Washington Redskins, Chase Coffman ('08) of the Atlanta Falcons, Aaron Hernandez ('09), D.J. Williams ('10) of the New England Patriots,  Dwayne Allen ('11) of the Indianapolis Colts and Tyler Eifert ('12) of the Cincinnati Bengals.
