A Letter from our President:
Dear friends of SEF,
I would like to thank you for all your support over the years. Without the commitment from our donors,
sponsors and community we would not be able to Support Student Success for the children or our
school district. Education is the backbone of our society and I can't think of a better way to help our
children than to give to their educational opportunities. We are celebrating our 30
th
birthday in 2016
and can't wait to see what the future holds.
With sincere appreciation,
Patty Venema
President

Annual Fundraising Auction
On October 10, 2015, Snohomish Education Foundation hosted its "Imagine...the power of dreaming together!" Annual Fundraising Auction at the Tulalip Resort Casino. The Snohomish community showed how much we value and support education with donations reaching a new record of over $200,000.00 with 300 in attendance.
The event began with a performance by 2015 graduates from Snohomish High School, Garrett Hall and Olivia Verrill who sang an upbeat version of "Destination" followed by a night filled with frenzied bidding. During the "Fund a Need" portion of the evening, Allison Hoeth, 2015 graduate from Snohomish High School spoke on the impact that class room grants and scholarships had made on her life. Valley View Middle School Principal, Nancy Rhoades, also spoke to the importance of class room grants and the importance of supporting students in the Snohomish School District.
"Thanks to our many generous donors, corporate sponsors, and volunteers this evening was a great success", stated Robin Stefanson, Board Vice President and 2015 Auction Chair. "The funds donated today make a lasting impact on the students of tomorrow. Monies raised through the auction help us continue our Class room Grants, Scholarships, District-wide Grants and Hansen Shoe Fund programs."

Scholarships
The generosity of our community grows year after year. In 2015, we were able to award over 175 individual scholarships to Snohomish's Glacier Peak, Snohomish and Aim High seniors totaling $170,000. These scholarships were funded in partnership with local businesses, organizations, and families. With increases in college tuition each year these scholarships become evermore important to the next generation of our Snohomish School District students. With the help of our many generous sponsors Snohomish School District's High School seniors were able to pursue their dreams. Here is what one recipient had to say about their scholarship.
"I am so blessed to have received this scholarship because it helps me reach my lifelong goal of becoming an elementary school teacher. I want to make a difference in the lives of children and this award helps me get closer to that goal."
Scholarships are tax deductible donations and assist students with costs associated with higher education. These scholarships are easy to start and rewarding to give.

Carol Robinson, Foundation Trustee and Scholarship Committee Chair commented, "As our next generation heads off to an exciting future, I am reminded of what a truly amazing community we live in. Without the support of our local businesses, service organizations and fellow community members we could not offer these amazing young adults this opportunity. Thank you."

Classroom Grants
The Snohomish Education Foundation was able to distribute a total of $74,000.00 in Classroom Grants in 2015.
With the support of our community, families, businesses and community organizations these dollars were awarded to each school in our district (levels K-12) and will enhance the educational experience of all 9,800 students. Specifically, these grants will improve programs in literacy, science, technology, engineering, math and the arts.
The Cathcart Elementary School CPO's Art Smart program was one of 111 recipients of a Classroom Grant. Their grant helped them to purchase equipment for the newly established art room, including a paper trimmer, pencil sharpener and drying rack. These items will be available for long-term use with all Cathcart students in grades K-6 benefiting.
"We greatly appreciate SEF's support of Cathcart and our cross-curriculum, volunteer-led art program. The equipment purchase has created one central and efficient work area for nearly 40 volunteers to prepare projects on behalf of our 400 student artist."
- Denise Del Gianni, ART Smart Program Coordinator

District-Wide Grants & Programs
Snohomish Education donated $20,000.00 to the Summer Arts & Science
Academy and $20,000.00 to the ECEAP
Preschool-Third Grade Reading Readiness Program with the Snohomish School District in 2015.
The $20,000.00 for the Summer Arts & Science Academy allowed for scholarships to low-income students that would not otherwise be able to attend. This program's goal is to
fill summer learning gaps, create a lifelong passion for learning, and provide nourishing meals (through Kid's Café program) and transportation. It also exposes students to new opportunities and helps build vocabulary and background knowledge.
"The SEF support of our Summer Arts & Science Academy is invaluable. The Foundation's support has made it possible for dozens of students to engage in innovative, hands-on learning, who might otherwise have not been able to afford it. Our program is richer and more meaningful for the diversity of experiences that so many kids have brought to it." - Scott Peacock, Snohomish School District Assistant-Superintendent for Leadership & Learning
$20,000.00 for the Reading-readiness
program
allows for all
children from
ECEAP
preschool through third grade to attend programs that promote skills to enable students to be able to read by third grade. Each year, another grade level is added to the 5-year program. Statistically, we know that low and moderate-income populations or children at risk are demographically this highest percentage of students that begin slipping behind prior to the 4
th
grade. We also know that statistically, those students that are challenged going into 4
th
grade are less likely to graduate from high school.
