In terms of growth in the local industrial, institutional, military, utility and commercial markets, 2015 was another big year. Thirty major project announcements in Kankakee County in 2015 are projected to yield $485 million in capital investment, 588,600 square feet of new space, and 796 new jobs. In news that is already generating economic ripples, we saw the State of Illinois announce the certification of Kankakee County's two Enterprise Zone programs and Kankakee County log record numbers of exports.
Olivet Nazarene University dramatically expanded its School of Engineering, and Kankakee Community College and Northern Illinois University created new engineering degree pathways.
The Coalition for Hope & Excellence in Education (CHEE) and partners launched the "Opportunity 3000" career awareness campaign.
The Economic Alliance program generated more than $25,000 in new private-sector funding.
And, for the second consecutive year, the Kankakee-Bradley Metropolitan Statistical Area was ranked the #1 Small Metro in Illinois by global economic think tank the Milken Institute in its Best-Performing Cities index.
