Did you know?

The Vasa Trail received 4+ inches of fresh snow overnight with more predicted over the next several days.  Let me suggest that you visit our well groomed trails this weekend to tune up for both the White Pine Stampede and the North American Vasa.

Vasa Trail

Kudos to Jim Dombrowski and his intrepid TART grooming team for their efforts.  Even in this 'low snow' winter they are doing a great job of providing a quality ski surface.  We are heartened to see incremental snowfall and cold temperatures predicted over the next several days.  The groomers will work to mix the new snow with the firm base to improve the trail overall.

TART Trails will be hosting an open house this Saturday from 10:00 AM-1:00 PM.  Stop by the Bunker Hill Trailhead for a hot drink and some homemade cookies and say hi to our hard working groomers who will be on hand to visit.  Ski conditions this weekend should be great!

  WHAT's New for VASA 2015

The North American VASA 2015 will feature changes in some key areas to help you enjoy your VASA race experience.  Our intent is to provide an even more festive atmosphere for our Festival of Races.  We have expanded our facilities so as to encourage you, your family, and your friends to come early and stay for the day to enjoy the races, the camaraderie, and our new onsite awards program.

                                                           The Vasa Event Tent

You'll find a warm and inviting atmosphere for celebration and camaraderie in the large (40' x 80') Vasa Event Tent, which will be located near the finish line.  Special thanks to sponsors American Rentals and Team Bob's Heating and Cooling who have worked            with us to make this possible.

Short's Brewing Company, our title sponsor, will be in the Event Tent and will have craft beers and ciders available for sale.  An outside beer garden will be adjacent to the tent and will provide a good vantage point from which to view the finish line.  People of all ages are welcome in the tent.  Identification will be required to purchase beer and beer must remain in the tent or beer garden.

Cherry Republic, the official snack of the North American Vasa, will provide complimentary snacks.  Pepsi products will also be available to enjoy.

As in the past, hot soup, fruit, bread, cookies, and drinks will be provided for racers and volunteers in the Banquet Hall.  You can enjoy these items in the banquet hall or carry them a few feet to the Event Tent to meet up with family and fellow participants.

New this year, our awards program will be presented in the Event Tent starting around 1:30.  Year Participation Pins will be available in the tent.  Overall and age-group winners from all events will be recognized.  We will also have touch pad computers available to check your results.

So, we hope you will bring a change of clothes and stay to enjoy all of the day's events.

Banquet Hall

The Timber Ridge Banquet Hall will be reserved for race participants and volunteers.  Large changing areas for men and women will be created there for both pre-race and post-race changing.  The entry and exit to the Banquet Hall will be on the south side of the building, through the double doors on the patio.

A heated bag drop tent will be located just outside the Banquet Hall adjacent to the patio area on the south side.  We hope you will bring a change of clothes for after the race so you and your family and friends can more fully enjoy the festivities and the Event Tent.  The bag drop tent is a great place to leave your change of clothes and it will be staffed to assist you.

As noted above, post-race refreshments will be available for you in the Banquet Hall.

Call for Volunteers

Linda DPlease help us spread the word that organizers of the North American Vasa Festival of Races are looking for volunteers to help with a variety of indoor and outdoor tasks.  Examples of volunteer's jobs include: packing skier registration packets, snowmobile crossing guards, serving at an aid station, helping with stadium activities, and cleaning up after the race.

To sign up to volunteer visit www.vasa.org and click on the "Lend a Hand" link.  You can also contact Volunteer Coordinator Linda Deneen at 231-409-5683 or deneendaisy@charter.net.  Thank You

Orphan Poles

We could use any ski poles that, singles or in pairs, that you would be willing to donate to the Vasa.  We stock orphan poles at our aid stations and road crossings to assist skiers who have broken poles in the race.  Poles can be dropped off at registration at Timber Ridge, or can be left outside the door to the barn at the trailhead.  Thanks!
