Elected Official's,

This is a timely reminder to register for the 2016 Legislative Conference being held on October 13th at the Holthus Convention Center in York, Nebraska.  The venue is new and the program is filled with valuable insights for next year's legislative session.

The deadline for registration is Friday, October 7th!

That is only a week away! After October 7th, the registration fee is increased by $10 from $50 to $60.

Fee deadlines are based on the registration date, not the payment date. As long as you are registered by October 7th you will not have the increased registration fee.  Payment will be due as soon as practicable after October 7th to the NACO Office.

The Hampton Inn in York has provided NACO Legislative Conference participants with a  single room rate of $80.00 per night.  Counties will be allowed to direct bill to the Hampton Inn prior to September 30th.  The Hampton Inn in York may be called at 402-362-0222 for reservations.

Go to www.nacone.org  and look for Upcoming Events. Click on  Registration under the 11th Annual NACO Legislative Conference Heading and continue filling out the forms that are provided.  If this is your first time you may need to have a NACO ID number assigned to you so just go ahead and request it and use it for any other registrations you may wish to do in the future.  It's that easy!

The clock's ticking, so take time today to register for the 2016 LEGISLATIVE CONFERENCE. The conference will start at 9:30 a.m. and is scheduled to have a noon luncheon provided for the participants.  After lunch a speaker from NACo will address national legislative issues.  Then after the 2:30 p.m. break the NACO Board will meet with the delegation that is present and develop their 2017 legislative platform and priorities.

People elected and appointed to county office are perceived by the public as being leaders, capable of making decisions in the best interest of the people they serve. Leadership is more than just answering to the public, though. It's about listening and working with people to bring about change that ultimately leads to a better condition, place or situation.

Paticipation in the 2016 LEGISLATIVE CONFERENCE assists everyone in taking that step of moving forward for the benefit of the citizens we serve.
The 2016 LEGIS-LATIVE CONFER- ENCE is designed to provide education and awareness in a variety of learning settings that will include:

- A review of the 2016 and a preview of the 2017 legislative session highlights with Hen- derson, Nebraska Senator Curt Friesen

- Nebraska Supreme Court Chief Justice Michael Heavican and State Court Administrator, Corey Steel will address the impact of the courts on county government

- NACo's Justice Program Manager, Kathy Rowings will address helping counties in using dollars wisely in corrections and discuss pretrial services in re-entry initiatives

- Health care costs, retirement and moving into the 2017 legislative session will be covered by Seward, Nebraska Senator Mark Kolterman

This is certainly an opportunity to become a part in the development of legislation that NACO will support on your behalf as a county official.
