Melons:
Melon season is beginning.  You will see a number of different varieties offered this year. We love melons and do everything that we can to get them to our members, despite the challenges that come with transport and storage of these in the CSA boxes.  If you get a melon that has gone bad or is damaged, please let us know right away.  We will do everything we can to replace it the next week.

How we decide what goes in the box:
Vegetable farming is different from year to year. Each week we may be dealing with any number of things, from pests or bad weather to an over abundant harvest. These are the things that effect what ends up in CSA shares. But, we also know that just because the fields might be full of cabbage, doesn't mean that our members are willing to eat 3 heads a week. We try hard to provide diversity in boxes, making sure that members get something new almost every week. So, instead of giving out beets for 8 wks in a row, just because we have them, we may decide to send beets to the market stand and add something else to the box. In situations where a popular well liked crop fails we might choose to use emergency funds to purchase it from another local farmer. Happy members are important to us and we do our part to give out a balanced box each week throughout the season.

Melons!
Melons are a favorite of summer and ours looks like they will be yielding well this year.  Getting them to our CSA members can have some challenges.  We will do the best we can to overcome them and make sure your melons are beautiful and delicious.

Storing and shipping melons, especially the specialty varieties that we are growing, can have its challenges.  In less than a day, a melon can go from beautiful in the field when it is picked, to having a mushy soft spot that goes bad.  We do our best to make sure every melon that gets put in a share will be perfect, but sometimes we can misjudge or they can get damaged in shipping.

We do recommend that members eat melons quickly after they pick them up. If you get a melon that is damaged or has gone bad, don't hesitate to give us a call.  We will do everything we can to replace it the following week for you.

Here is a list of the possible melons that you could get in this weeks box.
