Dear Members,
Ever ask yourself, “Why did I start a business?”, “What have I done?” or “What the heck am I doing??". I’m hedging my bets that all of you have, at some point or another, asked yourself at least one of these. Know what that tells me? It tells me we are in this together. Moreover, we are in this together in this slice of paradise we call Sooke with all it’s own unique quirks and challenges of operating a business here. If we want to have thriving businesses in the Sooke Region it is up to us, as a team, to make it happen. As a team. United. One for all and all for one.
Tourism is currently the main economic driver for Sooke. Reality is, very few towns can survive, let alone thrive, on Tourism alone. But the ones that do, do so because they have come together. Chamber can lead the way but to be successful we need you to be on board. We need you to be engaged, to lift each other up, and to put away the pettiness towards others. We all share the common goal of wanting to put food on the table and heck maybe go on a vacation. So let’s start all paddling our canoe in sync in the same direction.
So where to start? What can you do? Read our newsletter. Send us feedback. Tell us what you need. Tell us about the amazing service/ organization/ company that just helped you in your business. Tell us your ideas about what is needed in Sooke and then volunteer to help implement it. Attend our events. Share, like and comment on our Facebook posts especially the business spotlight posts that feature local businesses as, you’re not helping us when you do that, you’re helping another local business.
Let’s collectively make 2017 the year Sooke comes together. it begins with us. It begins with you.

Canada Summer Jobs provides funding to help employers create summer job opportunities for students. It is designed to focus on local priorities, while helping both students and their communities.
Canada Summer Jobs:
- provides work experiences for students
- supports organizations, including those that provide important community services; and
- recognizes that local circumstances, community needs and priorities vary widely
Canada Summer Jobs provides funding to not-for-profit organizations, public-sector employers and small businesses with 50 or fewer employees to create summer job opportunities for young people aged 15 to 30 years who are full-time students intending to return to their studies in the next school year.
*The deadline to submit your Canada Summer Jobs application is January 20, 2017.
