Daytona Beach Gets Shriners Revved Up
Delegation of city and county officials meet 200+ incoming Potentates (Presidents)
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (March 16, 2015)
- A delegation of Daytona Beach officials travelled to Tampa, Florida, Monday, March 9, 2015 to meet with over 200 incoming Potentates (Presidents). The gathering, held at the Marriott Tampa International Airport, gave the delegation an opportunity to get the crowd "revved up" about the 2017-2018 Imperial Sessions to be held in Daytona Beach.
"This was a great opportunity for us to meet with the influencers," said Daytona Beach Area CVB Executive Director Tom Caradonio. "These are the people who will impact how many people come to Daytona Beach for the Imperial Sessions in 2017-18."
The group anticipates 10,000-15,000 attendees partaking in the weeklong event, July 9-13, 2017, with an economic impact of up to $8-million. The host hotels are Wyndham Ocean Walk, Hilton Daytona Beach Oceanfront Resort and The Plaza Resort and Spa, and 25 additional hotels will be contracted by individual Shrine groups.
The Daytona Beach delegation warmly welcomed the audience then proceeded with a "Racing to Daytona Beach" presentation. The presentation included a brief history of how the event came to fruition with the major crux focused on providing the Shriners with support to book their rooms early. The group erupted in applause when they were informed that transportation to and from their hotels would be complimentary.
"After 5 years of working on Daytona Beach as the 2017-18 venue for the Shriners Imperial Session," said Imperial Assistant Rabban Gary Bergenske, "it is so exciting to get to this point where we are talking to the actual people who will begin arranging for the hotel reservations. I can't wait to see Daytona Beach filled with men wearing a Shriners Fez, enjoying the beach with their families." Bergenske will serve as Imperial Potentate, the highest leadership position of Shriners International, during the 2017-18 convention.
An event specific website -
- has been developed by the Shriners to showcase the Daytona Beach area, as well as the wide variety of area attractions which the Shriners' families and friends will be able to enjoy while the Shriners themselves are in session. Members of Shrine Centers will be able to book their hotel reservations beginning this July.
Attending from the Daytona Beach area were: Daytona Beach Shores Mayor Harry Jennings and his wife, Helen; City of Daytona Beach Athletic Manager, Leisure Services, Jacquelyn Pannell; Ocean Center Director of Sales and Marketing Angela Daniels; Ocean Center Sales Manager Lori Hunter; Daytona Beach Area CVB Executive Director Tom Caradonio; Daytona Beach Area CVB Director of Group Sales Linda McMahon; Daytona Beach Area CVB Sales Manager Lynn Miles; and Daytona Beach Area CVB Communications Coordinator Tonya West.
