2017 TRENDS FROM THE
INCENTIVE RESEARCH FOUNDATION - Part 1

The Incentive Research Foundation has completed their Trend study for 2017. There are 10 trends that are emerging in the incentive, rewards & recognition world. Here are the first 5 (watch for our February newsletter for 6-10!):

1.  THE INCREASING DEMAND FOR NON-CASH REWARDS & RECOGNITION
Most meaningful to us: the number of U.S. businesses using non-cash rewards has risen from 26% in 1996 to 84% in 2016. This suggests that we're finally getting through to the business world that Cash is NOT King in the rewards & recognition world. Many IRF and other studies prove that employees perform at higher levels for tangible (particularly name-brand) merchandise.

2. MASTERING THE CHANGING AND CHALLENGING REGULATORY ENVIRONMENT

Almost 60% of respondents in the latest IRF Pulse Study said they agree or strongly agree that government regulations are making it more difficult to design reward and recognition programs.(Perhaps our new President will take care of those pesky regulations!)

Nearly 40% of U.S. businesses now use incentive travel to reward and recognize their top performing employees, salespeople, and channel partners. We can help with this! Check out Pulse Experiential Travel and let us show you how easy it is to help your corporate clients "experience life"!

4. MERCHANDISE AND GIFT CARD EXPANSION
Again, this bodes well for us! Merchandise and gift card programs continue to expand in the United States with 60% and 70%, respectively, of all U.S. businesses using these reward types. Businesses are using merchandise and gift cards for much more than just employee gifts or spiff programs, so let's talk about the many ways in which merchandise can be used to achieve goals or celebrate achievement.

5. SHIFTS IN SAFETY PERCEPTIONS AND MORE FREQUENT DISRUPTIONS
Zika. Terrorism. Hurricanes. Almost 60% of planners have experienced some form of disruption in their events, estimating that almost a quarter of their events have been affected in some way. All the more reason to connect your client with a professional travel provider so that they're sure their travelers will be in experienced hands!

Next month we'll talk about the other 5 trends that The IRF has identified. Are you prepared to help your clients navigate these trends?
