A Special Year for VMP!

As we wrap up a successful (and busy!) National Mentoring Month, VMP is excited to continue celebrating mentoring throughout the year in recognition of our organization's 25th Anniversary.

Throughout 2018, you'll notice some new things from us - from a fresh new logo and tagline of "25 Years Mentoring Mentors," to educational speaker events, to a cocktail celebration event.  W e will be spotlighting stories of successful program partners, inspiring matches, and champions of mentoring throughout VMP's history, while also continuing to look forward and engage potential mentors, program partners, donors, and community stakeholders.

Finally, we want to start off this Silver Anniversary recognition by thanking YOU - Virginia Mentoring Partnership would not be able to support quality relationships and programming for young people across Virginia without your support and partnership.

You can celebrate with us this year by liking us on Facebook and following us on Instagram and Twitter. Your connection to us through social media helps us share our latest news and positive messages of success.

Thank you for sharing this milestone with us! We look forward to many exciting moments in mentoring this year!

Recapping a Successful National Mentoring Month

National Mentoring Month is coming to a close, and we were so excited to share in the energy and stories of our program partners throughout the month. Thank you to our partners, trainees, mentors, donors, and stakeholders for participating in these efforts to promote mentoring and raise awareness.    *Senator Tim Kaine with VA partners

At VMP, we celebrated National Mentoring Month with a burst of programmatic opportunities and awareness building. In a quick snapshot, our January efforts included:
  • Facilitating three free open training sessions for mentors and program staff that were booked to full capacity
  • Hosting the first 2018 quarterly gathering for mentoring programs in the Richmond-area program network. Mentoring programs took this opportunity to connect, share ideas and tips for recruiting volunteers, and learn about refining their pitch using the "business model canvas" tool.
  • Celebrating "I am a Mentor Day" and "Thank Your Mentor Day" on social media. Thank you to all of our partners who tagged us in posts!
  • Advocating on Capitol Hill for legislation supporting child safety legislation and mentoring funding on a national level. Please add your voice!
  • Attending MENTOR's National Mentoring Summit, hosted in Washington D.C., where staff exchanged ideas with members of other state mentoring partnerships, caught up with program coordinators from across the state, and attended workshops to learn more about latest research of best program practices across the country.
