PASSION PROJECT LUNCHEON

On Thursday, July 26, 2018, we hosted our Passion Project Luncheon celebrating our partners with our Passion Project recipients themed, "A Taste of Passion ." Our host and Project Manager of the Passion Project, Ashley Young, did a phenomenal job giving our attendees a "taste" of what the Passion Project is all about.

Attendees were able to sample some of the services that are offered through this program. Kameelah Harris, Owner of W.O.W. Fitness who is a partner of the Passion Project, conducted a modified segment of the weekly fitness sessions provided at our EmPowermernt Center. Several other partners were celebrated for there products and services to the program. Ashley Young shared our successes and milestones thus far, and thanked our partners for working to enhance the lives of individuals, families, and our community.

The Passion Project is a three year project to expand and enhance prevention and treatment services to enhance the lives of low income women with substance use disorders and at high risk for HIV or viral hepatitis infection or transmission. This funding is the result of a competitive application process and we believe the strength of partner commitments, including those by your organization, made the difference for Arkansas.

The Passion Project is funded by Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), A branch of the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services, in partnership with the University of Medical Sciences (UAMS).

Dr. O'Dell Johnson Presents: Soul of Healing Mind Body Medicine Community Day Program

Soul of Healing Community Day Workshop

Hoover Treatment Center in partnership with Research Institute for Social Equity conducted a Soul of Healing Community-Day Workshop. The workshop was held outdoors for the sole purpose of communing with nature as a healing tool. Participants experienced an opening ritual, Yoga, Primordial Sound Meditation, a Healing Circle, a Nature Walk, and Relaxation Therapy, and a closing ritual.

As you all know, during recovery, we face many personal challenges such as employment, housing, family, law enforcement, probation/parole, and going back our community. This process can be very fearful, cause self-doubt, which can lead to an overwhelming amount of stress that could interfere with our recovery. The Soul of Healing Community-Day Workshop was conducted by Hoover Treatment Center to help strengthen the client participants recovery processes. The tools they were given helped to reduce the stress associated with recovery and treatment.

For example, the participants learned how to identify personal traits and characteristics that fosters self-discipline, empathy, gratitude, compassion, generosity, dignity, and humility. Also, during the workshop, the participants learned how trauma can negatively affect their recovery, and how to use meditation and Yoga to combat against its impact. Finally, client participants learned how to reduce, and or eradicate addictive behavioral characteristics, which largely contribute to relapse.

Over-all the client’s participants at Hoover Treatment Center extremely enjoyed the workshop, and all said … “They couldn’t wait to it do it again “.

New Grant for New Programs

We are excited to announce that we have been funded $10,000 by United Way Community Investments Committee.

As a United Way Funded Partner, funds will be used to expand and enhance prevention services by incorporating a component called Health Enhancement Life-Skills Project (HELP) that will teach health & wellness, life skills, self-esteem building, job skills training such as interviewing, resume-building, and employment coaching to low-income, adult women in Pulaski County, Arkansas (AR) who have substance use disorders (SUD) and are at high risk for HIV/Viral Hepatitis (VH) infection or transmission.

FREE After School Program

Begins August 13th

BCD YIP is offering a FREE After School Program for boys (Ages 13-18) in the Little Rock Midtown Area. A program that gives children the opportunity for academic growth, develop social skills, as well as engage in academic and cultural enrichment to impact the growth of our youth today.

Our youth leaders are passionate about creating impactful opportunities for our youth to grow into productive adults. Whether it be better grades, jobs, or opportunities to go to college, but they are not able to provide these opportunities without you.
