How Did YOU Celebrate

National School Choice Week?

Did you attend one of 11,082 events that took place all over America last week?  Thousands of people around the country rallied in support of more school choice options.

Here in Minnesota, students, teachers, supporters, and policymakers joined us for our own celebration of public school choice on January 28, like this attentive group from St. Paul City School.

It all started in Minnesota nearly thirty years agopost secondary options, open enrollment, and charter public schools. We were thrilled to have Sue Perpich with us, to honor the visionary leadership of Governor Rudy Perpich in bringing public school choice to Minnesota and the country.

We appreciate the many Minnesota

legislators who stopped by to support our efforts, including: Rep. Sondra Erickson, House Education Innovation Policy Committee Chair; Rep. Jim Knoblach, House Ways and Means Committee Chair;  Reps. David Pinto and Drew Christensen; Senators Dave Senjem, Mary Kiffmeyer, Bill Ingebrigtsen, Dan Hall, Roger Chamberlain, Bruce Anderson; and former Senate Majority Leader Amy Koch.   Former Senators Gen Olson (center) and Kathy Saltzman (event organizer / right) joined me as well.  Deputy Commissioner of Education (and open enrollment alum) Kevin McHenry gave remarks.  Thank you all for showing your support!

You can read more about the origins and impact of public school choice in my blogposts from last Tuesday and Thursday. These were the first blogposts of my brand new 2015 blog:

21st Century Education:  Innovation and Breakthrough

Sign up today to receive my twice-weekly posts on the latest innovations in 21st century education:  personalized learning, teacher-powered schools, and more.  Make this your personal opportunity to continue the work of National School Choice Week!   The more we recommit to public school choices, the more we'll grow the innovations and breakthroughs in education for the 21st century.  Let's take this journey together.

And now . . . dance like no one is watching: celebrate school choice!  The charter school students of Lionsgate Academy of Crystal, Minnesota, did just that in the photo below.
