Presentation Summary: As students with the 22q11.2 deletion move through school, math often becomes increasingly difficult. This webinar will briefly review the main points that underlie the math challenges often found and discuss how to remediate or accommodate these deficits in higher level math classes. Additionally, we will discuss the implications of a math disability and its impact on transitioning into post secondary training and adult life. Emphasis will be on both training and the use of community and private resources. Time will be given for discussion and questions.

Math disability has been well documented in cognitive studies on 22q11 population. Difficulties with understanding the fundamental aspects of mathematics plague these students throughout childhood and in many cases into adulthood. This webinar will explore the research that has been done to define the underpinnings of math challenges for this population and apply that knowledge to the more general understanding of how to approach math with special needs pre-school and elementary students. Emphasis will be on the topics of number sense and visual spatial deficits and how these impact early learning of math concepts. After a PowerPoint presentation, there will be a question and answer session.
