A Note From Your Second Grade Teachers
Second Grade Connections
January 26th, 2017
Dear Second  Grade  Families,

Wow! What wacky weather to get us out of the dreaded drought! Please enjoy recess photos and a short video of this week's Hail Storm.

Our World Studies have us learning all about ecosystems and how living and non-living things interact with each other in order to grow and survive in their natural habitats. Soon we will be zooming in on each continent, one at a time, to learn more about the life, land and culture of a particular country.

Subtraction is the name of the game during Math time.  Reading circles, journal writing and learning the different patterns for spelling long vowel words through word studies and word sorts keeps us busy during our Language Arts time.

This week we introduced our  Star of the Week with the teachers as the stars. We will be  learning how to write a friendly letter to our Super Star on a weekly basis. This is a fun and special way to honor each class member's uniqueness. Please make sure to check your email and child's homework folder for more details including the star sharing schedule.

It was great to see so many of you at last week's Science Fair!

Sincerely,

Your Second  Grade  Team
Rosalie Simrock, Debra Christian, Sherri Trigueiro & Vienna Klingele

What We Have Been Up To...
Ask Your Child...

Talking with your child is the best way to support classroom learning. The following questions can help you get started.

  • What is the best thing about being in a Hail Storm? The worst thing?
  • How do you think the storms affect our local habitat?
  • What is something you learned about your teacher during her Super Star share?
  • Why is it important to show respect for yourself and others?
Important Reminder
Second Grade is Nut Free!
As a reminder, we have children in Ms. Christian's class with severe nut allergies. In an effort to be safe and as inclusive as possible, please send nut free snacks to school. If you are bringing any snacks to share with the class or grade level, please give advanced notice so that we can provide an alternative snack. We will need to provide an alternative unless the food brought in is prepackaged and labeled. Thank you for helping to keep everyone safe and healthy in second grade.
