Hearty Meals for Deployed Marines

Marine Grandma Sends Us "Meal Kits"

Meal Kits for Deployed MarinesA few weeks ago we received 12 meal kits (see photo to right) in the mail from the grandma of a 3/5 Marine. These kits were packaged with care and contained healthy meals the Marines much prefer to the MREs they are given to eat.

Each kit also had a personal letter attached to the bottom of its box. In the letter the Marine grandma includes funny anecdotes about her small town. She also states that her son was with the 3/5 Marines and she constantly sent him packages. When 3/5 returned home, she wanted to continue sending packages to the platoon that was replacing 3/5, the 1/5 Marines. Though the meals were designated for 1/5, the platoon is heading home soon, so the meals will be sent to another platoon wanting supplies.

In the letter she also says, "You need to be reminded of the good wishes and prayers of the people of your country." The letter ends with, "God bless you and watch over you in your walk abouts and help you to sleep well at night. We on the homefront thank you for your service. Love, Grandma Stroh"

The Marines who receive these packages will be filled with encouraging words and good food. We thank Grandma Stroh for sending us the kits to forward on to our brave service men and women!

We Appreciate Your Support

Dollar Campaign Success

Thank You For Your SupportThanks to all of your generous donations, we raised a total of $8,972 for our summer Dollar Campaign. We didn't quite reach our goal of $12,500, but our cost of shipping over 1,000 care packages on Saturday, July 23rd was significantly lowered.

On behalf of the Marines who look forward to receiving these packages while overseas, we thank you again for your support of the Dollar Campaign! If you didn't get a chance to donate to this fund, it's not too late....you can still donate online by clicking here.

Stay tuned for a recap and photos of our July 23 pack day!

Marine and Family at Graduation

Marine Mom Maggie from New London, Minnesota, sent us this photo after her Marine's graduation from boot camp in June. She says:

"Here's our 'Red Friday Tribute'.  Our Marine graduated from MCRD San Diego. This is Mom, Sis, Marine Dan, Sis-in-law, & big Bro.  We wear our T-shirts proudly!!"

Thanks Maggie! We love to get photos from our supporters. If you have a photo you'd like to share, send it to store@marineparents.com. To see other photos we've received visit our "Semper Family" photo gallery here.

News Article: The Marines of 3/5

Attention on Deck: From & About Our Marines

Marines of 3/5

An April article on the Wall Street Journal's website featured the Marines of 3/5 and some of their experiences while deployed. The article was written by a journalist embedded with the platoon and gives a first-hand look into the daily lives of these Marines.

A poignant excerpt from the story reflects the bravery and tenacity of all Marines:

"We got a radio intercept yesterday," Lt. Garcia said. "Some Talib leaders in Pakistan were chewing out the local fighters for quitting. The locals yelled back, 'Marines run toward our bullets.'"

One of the Marines in the above photo (far left) stepped on an IED during 3/5's tour and was taken to San Diego's Wounded Warrior Barracks. He had to have his leg amputated, and he is now being cared for by our Purple Heart Family Support volunteers.
