We capped off a gorgeous weekend of warm weather at the terrific Taste Washington event last night in the Pearl District. Aside from enjoying our time chatting with many of you and tasting some awesome nibbles (thanks metrovino, Bar Avignon, Chop & Alma!), we found a few exciting new releases from old and new favorite producers.

With that in mind, here's our three picks of new Washington wines that are available now or coming our way shortly. So whether you made it to the show last night or want to live vicariously through us, you can enjoy a couple of Washington offerings when the sunshine returns just in time, hopefully, for another great weekend.

To order the wines below, please send us an email at Orders are filled in the order received. We will confirm your request and let you know when your complete order is ready to pickup. Small orders can  typically be filled within a day while full case orders may take up to a week.  Learn more about our Wine Finds program in the FAQs section at the end of this email.

2011 TRANCHE Pink Pape (Reg. $17.25)

cork club $15/btl or $174/cs nonclub $16/btl or $186.30/cs

Tranche Pink PapeLast year's best selling local ros in the shop is back and fans will be happy with the results. This is as close to Provence as you can get without paying for airfare, as it reminds us of those great examples from Miraval and Margui where the Cinsault grape provides  strawberry and watermelon and a touch of peach comes through on the lively finish.

Whether you spend the weekend planting vegetable starts in the garden, re-enacting Hunger Games in the wild or putting some long miles on your road bike, afterward you will feel rejuvenated drinking this Pink Pape as the afternoon sun fades into the evening.  Once again, this is a very small production run of ros with only a little coming to Oregon. Washington state is already sold out and we probably won't be able to order anymore after this week, so give us your orders by tomorrow latest to ensure you get what you are hoping for. Limit 1 case per customer.

2009 SYNCLINE Scintillation Blanc de Blancs (Reg $43.50)
cork club $36/bottle . nonclub $39/bottle

ScintillationIn a room full of top Washington winemakers, it's truly impossible to pick the best red wine of the night. But what was a real eye opener was the inaugural release of a traditional method sparkling Blanc de Blancs made by Syncline that just might foreshadow an emerging trend with Northwest producers in the years to come - high-quality bubbly made close to home!

James & Poppi Mantone have long had a passion for Champagne and sought to create something with equal depth of flavor and character from cooler vineyards in the Columbia Gorge.  In 2009, they made their first attempt and, after 2 1/2 years of waiting, they are finally releasing a miniscule quantity to the market. We tasted it last night and were thrilled with the result.

The wine shows classic sparkling Chardonnay qualities with some chalky quality that is hard to place, given I don't recall a vineyard in Washington state that has white chalk soils like they do in Champagne. Nevertheless, the depth of flavor lingers and this will be equally delicious with oysters or fruit-spiked ceviche as well as an attractive choice for toasting a special occassion with something made close to home. We don't expect to see much of this wine when it hits town in the next few weeks, so we're taking pre-orders now at extra savings for those that want to commit early. Limit 6 bottles per customer.

2009 SULEI CELLARS Petit Verdot (Reg $30)
cork club $25.50/btl or $300/cs . nonclub $28/btl or $324/cs

Sulei Petit VerdotWithout declaring an outright winner amongst the reds, I can state that this wine was the one standout that really surprised and impressed me. I've enjoyed the reds from Sulei in prior years, but the vivid and lively quality of this Petit Verdot, a grape that isn't always so approachable, really enamored me and left me thinking about it long after I left the event last night. The flavors range from wild loganberry to hints of fresh herbs but the electrifying mineral note really illustrates how paying attention to picking fruit at the perfect moment can give excellent results, regardless of how difficult the grape in question might be to work with. I will say this is the best $30 or under bottle we tasted last night and we'd love you to check it out. For those who are already fans or also tasted it last night, enjoy these extra savings on a case. The wine should be in by the end of the week. Limit 1 case per customer.
