3 Hot Design Styles that are a Large Part of the Newest Emerging Trend

Top 3 Design Influences Shaping Interiors Today

Modern Influences of Design

The design world is a reflection of our socioeconomic climate.  Prior to the economic slowdown in 2008, interiors that were highly embellished and design spared no expense.  Affluence was highly visible in interiors. Furnishings were dark and rich in color while traditional elements were used excessively. Progressively, the design world has shifted to a minimalist luxury with an emphasis on a more modern, no fuss, interior.  These three design styles have a significant impact on this emerging design trend.

Hygge (hoo-gah) - Danish concept of cozy contentment and well-being through enjoying the simple things in life. Collected treasured items may not be perfectly coordinated and placement of ornamentation is not perfectly symmetrical.  The use of candles and natural light enhance this laid-back, natural concept.

Lagom - This Swedish approach to life focuses on moderation and creating the perfect balance between not too much and not too little.  This style embraces the no clutter, fuss or embellishment of interiors.  It questions why we own the things we do and focuses on what we truly need in our lives.  It's a curated style.

Wabi-Sabi - Japanese value that emphasizes wisdom in natural simplicity.  Essential objects are selected for their authentic utility and beauty.  Elements are chosen for their imperfections such as those found in natural textures and hand made imperfect objects.

These century old styles of living are sparking an honest approach to design. These pared down interiors offer a respite from the sensory overload of today's lifestyle. Minimalist luxury is a way to embrace simplicity while appreciating the beauty of carefully selected materials and objects.
