A Bucktown and Wicker Park CAPS Beat 1424 meeting will be held at Pritzker School-2009 W. Schiller on February 8th at 7 pm. You can park in the school parking lot. The meeting was originally at the field house and has moved to the Pritzker School. All 14th and 19th District public police scheduled meetings are available here. The Bag Tax is Here and We've Got Reuseable Bags For You!

The Chicago Checkout Bag Tax is officially in effect. This ordinance is intended to encourage shoppers to bring their own bags and reduce waste to help our lovely planet. By definition, any bag that a customer requests to carry out goods and products will be charged $.07 whether it is paper or plastic. If you're double bagging, that's a $.07 for each bag for a total of $.14.

There are a few exceptions to the rule such as bags provided by pharmacists for prescription drugs and bags to carry out your food from restaurants. For a full list, read this FAQ's Sheet. However, if you're out and about, just bring a bag!

Reusable bags are sturdy and easy to carry in your car, purses, backpacks, and even your pockets. You can search online for cleverly designed bags that can be tightly folded and hung on your keys. As a matter of fact, if you're looking for a reuseable bag that you don't want to purchase, please stop by our office. We have 100 bags to give away! It's first come, first serve and limited to 1 per person so hurry up because they will go fast!

If you need more information about the tax, especially if you're a retailer (restaurants do not apply), click here for more.
