Your Kentucky EMS Education Connection!

This is the third edition of the KBEMS Education Matters Newsletter.  KBEMS will be communicating with Emergency Medical Services-Training Educational Institutions and Educators on a monthly basis through the KBEMS Education Matters Newsletter.  

The newsletter will contain: educational resources, regulatory guidance and clarification on topics related to training, continuing education, certification and licensure, and will be a platform to disseminate national educational guidelines and practices.

KBEMS Employee Spotlight

Corissa Walters is working on her Bachelor’s degree in Emergency Medical Services at Eastern Kentucky University (EKU) and has been called the EMS version of Wonder Woman.  After you read her story you will see why EKU is referring to her as the Wonder Woman of EMS.

KBEMS Education Committee
The education committee is a standing committee of the board.  The Education Committee shall consist of seven (7) voting member’s representative of EMS Educators in the state of Kentucky. At least one (1) voting member of the Education Committee shall also be a member of the Kentucky Board of Emergency Medical Services. 
National Registry of EMT’s (NREMT) Transition Information
  • All NREMT-First Responders, Basics, and Paramedics have had two registration cycles (four years) to complete a state approved transition course in order to be eligible for National EMS Certification. 
    Important note: NREMT paramedics that are required to complete the Kentucky NREMT transition course must do so by March 31, 2017.
EMS-TEI Renewal Information for 2017

EMS-TEI’s expiring on March 31, 2017 need to start preparing for renewal process using the appropriate EMS-TEI pre-inspection worksheets.  

5 - Important items to share with your EMS students during orientation  

EMS-TEI instructors, please inform EMS students enrolled in initial provider courses of the following KBEMS processes during orientation.

Kentucky NREMT first time pass rate reports
Kentucky’s national ranking for 2015 first time pass rates are: EMR 19 out of 29, EMT 46 out of 51, AEMT 12 out of 31, and paramedic 35 out of 44.
