A Note From Your Third Grade Teachers
Third Grade Connections
February 9th, 2017
Dear Third  Grade Families,

Last Friday's successful field trip to the coastside bluffs opened up a new area of focus. Led by Hilary Stamper and supported by Coastside Land Trust, students explored the wetlands located on the Wavecrest property. They observed several puddles, drew details from small areas, and even caught sight of several frogs.

Third  Graders also  conducted research at school to learn about what frogs need to survive.  Students will make several more trips to this area to study this habitat and learn ways to help the frogs who live there.  A big "Thank You" to the parents who accompanied us on this excursion. We appreciate your time, especially on such short notice. It's amazing to watch these scientists in action!

What We Have Been Learning
Ask Your Child About

Talking with your child is the best way to support classroom learning. The following questions can help you get started.

  • If Mrs. Guevara's class found 2,856 tadpoles and Mrs. Bybee found 2,769. What is the difference of tadpoles found? How mny tadpoles did both classes find? Have them demonstrate with a Bar Model. They can do it.
  • What is the difference between the sound in "good" and "shoot"?
  • Why do we have seasons?
  • What does the Earth orbit around?  Where does the Earth rise and set?
  • How did your child fill someone's bucket this week?

  • Thank you for supporting your child with reading daily and signing their planner!

  • It would help improve recall of addition and subtraction facts to practice at home regularly.
