Cardinal Ritter Junior High Newsletter
Dear Junior High Parents,
This week was short but still filled with learning and blessings. As a Cardinal Ritter Community, we were blessed to have Archbishop Thompson celebrate mass with us. It was a wonderful experience especially during the Octave of Easter. We will finish this short week with tests and lots of work before we begin spring break today at 2:00 PM. Please have a ride for your child by 2:15 pm because there is no after-school care available today. I hope that you have a safe, enjoyable, and restful spring break. 

School resumes on Monday, April 16 th at 7:55 am. This is also the first day of part 2 of the ISTEP+ test for our 7 th and 8 th graders. Please make sure students are well rested, eat breakfast in the morning, and bring a pencil and calculator to school. We will be taking the different sections throughout the weeks of April 16 th – April 30 th
The 8 th grade graduation is right around the corner, and we are working to put the slideshow together. Please send in one baby picture and one current picture of your student. Students need to email or turn in these pictures to me by Friday, April 27 th at 3:00 pm. Students are welcome to turn in more pictures that have their friends in them throughout their years at Cardinal Ritter. Pictures do not need to be Cardinal Ritter pictures or pictures from Cardinal Ritter events. All pictures will be returned once they are scanned into the slideshow. Please contact me with any questions at lhokl@cardinalritter.org .

Run-a-thon 2018

Run-a-thon is less than a month away! We will need more volunteers to make the day a success for our students. Please click  here  if you're able to help on  Friday, May 4th!
Service Hours Reminder

All Junior High students are required to complete two hours of service each semester. 
Service hours are due on May 1, 2018. A service learning calendar is available outside the cafeteria with a different opportunity every Tuesday and Thursday after school.
CYO Softball & Track

CYO softball and track registrations are now available on the CYO website. The fee for softball is $50 and the fee for track is $40. Please contact Kyle Powers with any questions.

The CYO Softball Team is need of a volunteer coach. If interested, please contact Kyle Powers.
Girls STEM Institute 2018 IUPUI Summer Program

The application for Girls STEM Institute 2018 IUPUI Summer Program is now available at  http://www.girlssteminstitute.org  under the summer institute application tab. The dates are  June 11th - July 6th.  This summer we will focus on using mathematics to understand how money works in and beyond our household budgets. Example topics include but are not limited to the stock market, build personal and community wealth, tax systems, consumer debt, household budgets, and the economics of entrepreneurship. We will also engage in learning experiences related to engineering, computer science, and career and college readiness.   
CRHS Boys Soccer Announcement

Spring training for the CRHS boys soccer team will take place on Mondays and Wednesdays from 3:30-5:00 on the turf behind the high school beginning on Monday, April 16th. Sessions are not mandatory and are open to incoming freshmen through this year's juniors. Bring cleats and a pair of tennis/running shoes, and show up ready to work. Please feel free to invite anyone planning on attending Cardinal Ritter in the fall and is interested in playing on the boy's soccer team. Eighth Grade Scholarship for High School

The Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians, in accordance with our mission to advance and assist with Catholic education, is once again offering two $1000.00 scholarships ($500.00/semester) for the 2018-2019 school year: one to Cardinal Ritter High School and one to Scecina Memorial High School. It is open to all 8 th  grade students planning to attend either school. The student is required to write an essay, limited to 300 words, reflecting on their thoughts about the Value of a Catholic Education. The essay will be evaluated by L.A.O.H. members on the following criteria: Comprehension, Organization/Grammar and Creativity. 
In addition to the essay, a complete entry will include the students' information form, along with his/her most recent report card and ISTEP scores. Scholarship entries should be mailed to Liz Elias, 5801 N. Delaware St., Indianapolis, IN 46220 or submitted via email to  eelias@hallrender.com . Entries must be postmarked by Friday, March 30, 2018 or received via email on that date to be considered. Entries submitted via email must combine all application components into a single PDF. Questions may be directed to Liz at  eelias@hallrender.com  or 317-213-4337.   • 8th Grade Retreat on Thursday, April 5th at Fatima Retreat House
  • Thursday, April 5th – 2:00 pm dismissal – NO after-school room
  • Spring Break (Friday, April 6th – Sunday, April 15th)
  • ISTEP+ part 2 begins April 16th through April 30th – Please try not to schedule appointments in the morning during these few weeks.
