Smithsonian American Art Museum

Installation for 40 under 40: Craft Futures, opening at our Renwick Gallery July 20, is in full gear. To whet your appetite for the craft extravaganza I want to share the videos the exhibition artists created for the occasion. The clip below by Daniel Michalik illustrates many of the ideas behind the exhibition, and given I've had the pleasure of spending the week in the galleries watching artist Olek crochet up a storm, I have to highlight her as well. I don't want to spoil the surprise too much, but poke around below to see what's in store. And we'll see you July 20 for the big event!

Sneak a Peek!
Trucks are arriving, art handlers are milling about, and even some artists are on site to help install their own works! Over the next month we'll be putting the final touches on the 40 under 40: Craft Futures galleries, and we want to invite you to follow the progress on Flickr. You can also stop by and sneak a peek through our museum shop window into the world of Olek!

Curator Talk & Artist Open House
Friday, July 20, noon at the Renwick Gallery

Join Nicholas Bell, The Fleur and Charles Bresler Curator of American Craft and Decorative Art, in the Grand Salon for a brief illustrated talk on the new exhibition 40 under 40: Craft Futures. Afterward, mingle with Bell and the artists in the gallery and get your copy of the catalog (coming soon in the museum store and online) signed.

Give Craft Some Credit!
Don't forget that you can become a part of craft history by
making a donation to help the museum acquire works by all of the artists in the exhibition. Pledge your gift  before July 15 and your donation will earn you a spot in the exhibition credits!
