We're more than 60% of the way there!

We believe in engaging students in the work we do downtown to give youth a greater stake in the community. We are celebrating these projects and other past accomplishments as part of our upcoming Decade of Development anniversary. Please help us reach our $10,000 goal before the end of the year by making a tax-deductible gift.

An example of our impact: partnering with student groups to support downtown

Main Street has a long history of partnering with teachers and student leaders to engage high school students in downtown projects. Working with art teachers, after school groups, and student clubs, we bring students downtown to work in the gardens, paint storefront windows with seasonal decorations, and hang Christmas lights.

Main Street volunteer and downtown gardens coordinator Patricia Horine has recruited other volunteers from the high school's Rotary Club and from Jobs for Maine's Graduates program. "The help was immense! In three hours we accomplished what would have taken me three days. The students even went the extra mile to coordinate with the University of Maine Cooperative Extension in securing plant material."

Our latest engagement effort was bringing National Honor Society students downtown last November to hang Christmas lights in the pocket park on the corner of Madison Ave and Commercial Street. It's just one way we keep downtown festive and attractive!
