Norcross Cooperative Ministryncm
25th Anniversary Celebration
Thursday, April 24 | 7PM

Simpsonwood United Methodist Church
4500 Jones Bridge Circle, Norcross, GA 30092

Norcross Cooperative Ministry opened its door for the first time 25 years ago with a mission to help those in crisis in this community through the love of Christ. Restoring Hope! was a bold program to help families develop a pathway to transformation from poverty to economic responsibility.

The campaign to underwrite the Restoring Hope! five-year program has recently come to a close. In 2013, we have received 234 pledges totaling $3,495,965. We would like to thank the NCM Board of Directors, the Campaign Leadership, Investors and the more than 100 committed volunteers who worked so hard during the Restoring Hope! initiative. Our goal is to guide 100 families from homelessness to stable housing. For more information, visit: www.norcrossco-op.org

Mayor Johnson's Summer Book Club books
You Can Help!

Norcross Mayor Bucky Johnson has established a partnership between the city and the Norcross Cluster School Partnership (NCSP) to create a program intended to motivate kids to read this summer.

"Literacy skills are closely linked to the probability of having a good job, decent earnings and access to training opportunities," he explains. "Our teachers set rigorous standards for reading during the school year - keeping those skills fresh during summer vacation puts the kids that much ahead when they return to school in the fall."

The Mayor hopes to motivate children to check out books on their summer reading list, but first the club needs more books.

4,000 books have been donated so far for the Summer Book Club and we anticipate another 4,000+ to come in over the next several weeks.

We need to get the books ready to be used by the students this summer. Volunteers are needed to help place library card pockets in the books, as well as to color-code them for the appropriate age.

We will meet at a building near City Hall. Volunteers needed to work two-hour shifts:
  • Mondays & Wednesdays: 10AM - Noon or Noon - 2PM
  • Saturdays: 9AM - 11AM or 11AM - 1PM
If you would like to volunteer, please contact Pastor Terri Hoye:

Praises & Prayer Requests from Travis & Lorna Curry
Missionaries serving in Namibia

Greetings in the name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ!

Psalm 118:24, This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.

PRAISES:

For safety on the road yesterday as we had to borrow a vehicle from our friend to transport all the children (except 8) to their village for holiday. It was raining and nasty but God provided the vehicles and kept all the cars strong and us safe.

For visitors that brought blankets and sweatshirts and candy for the children.

For the end of term school assembly celebration.

The river (in spite of the rains that have continued) is going down!

For our families, friends, church, COZV board, prayer team, and all who donate financially to us and Zion.

PRAYER REQUESTS:

Pray for Manyando

For Manyando, one of the two year old twins. I took him to the hospital last night with a high fever and he is waking up screaming and twitching.

For Travis's mother as she is in the hospital after suffering another stroke.

For all the teams and individuals who are preparing to come to Zion.

For safety, good health, healing, strength and wisdom.

For preparation for the spiritual retreat that we will have for staff on May 5 and 6.

Psalm 116:2, Because He turned His ear to me, I will call on Him as long as I live.

With Thankful Hearts, In HIS Service, Lorna and Travis

Pray for Pastor Saeed Abedinisaeed

American Pastor Saeed Abedini remains in an Iranian hospital - receiving medical care because of your prayers and support.

Family members in Iran are able to visit him, he's receiving medication and nutrition, and Secretary Kerry once again called for his release this week.

You're making a difference, but there's much left to be done. Pastor Saeed - a U.S. citizen - has still not received the critical surgery he needs for injuries caused by prison beatings. We can't let him go back to that prison. We are fighting tirelessly to bring him home. I recently returned from a diplomatic mission to the Middle East, and we have additional legal teams scheduled to meet with world leaders

Sign the petition for Saeed's freedom at BeHeardProject.com. It is time for this 33-year-old U.S. citizen to come home. It's time for him to be reunited with his wife, Naghmeh, and their two children, Rebekka and Jacob.
