Animal Lifeline has awarded $2,500 to the No Nonsense Neutering organization to help them continue providing $25 spay and neuter for pit bulls, the Warrington-based agency announced this week.
Animal Lifeline is already working in partnership with No Nonsense Neutering and the Bucks County SPCA to provide low-cost vouchers for veterinary care for the pets of low-income families and also to test, spay/neuter feral cats in Bucks County.
Pit bull overpopulation has become chronic across the country and is putting pressure on agencies in Pennsylvania. A Petfinder.com search shows 3,855 pit bulls listed as adoptable looking for homes in Pennsylvania.
"Pit bull overpopulation is a national problem," says Denise Bash, founder of Animal Lifeline. "We are trying to curb the cause at the root, not adopt our way out of an overwhelming issue. We provide support to as many rescues and shelters as possible through our assistance programs but are working diligently to create more humane communities by taking aim at population control of the pets we see overburdening our shelters and rescues."
