While listening to Mario Bauza's CD " 944 Columbus",  the track " Cubauza" by Michael Philip Mossmon captured my attention. Cubauza has an authentic, stylistic character reminiscent of the early big band recordings of Machito & His Afro-Cubans. It was no surprise that Michael's writing skills were utilized for this project. Michael Mossman's writing acumen and appreciation of Afro-Cuban music makes him one of the top writers in the Latin/jazz scene today. It was imperative that this chart be listed in the 3-2 Music catalog.
     My first contact with Michael was a phone call to his office at Aaron Copland School of

Music at Queens College in New York. While simultaneously containing my excitement and composure, I explained the mission of 3-2 Music Publishing. Being that 3-2 Music began as a result of having my own Latin jazz class and that Michael was also an educator made my "elevator" pitch that much easier. Cubauza first appeared for sale through 3-2 Music Publishing as well as many other of his compositions. Michael Mossman is now omnipresent as a lead player, improviser and writer for countless recording sessions. 

Michael Philip Mossman Biography 

     Michael Philip Mossman has been active on the international scene since the age of 17. Mr. Mossman has performed and recorded with his own groups and with bands led by a virtual who's who of the music industry. Following stints as lead trumpet with the Machito Orchestra, Toshiko Akiyoshi, and with the Lionel Hampton Orchestra, Michael became the musical director of Blue Note Record's "young lion" group, Out of the Blue (OTB). He recorded four albums for Blue Note with this group before disbanding to join the Horace Silver Quintet.
