2. He`eia Fishpond

Located in He'eia Uli on the island of Oahu, He'eia Fishpond is a walled (kuapā) style fishpond enclosing 88 acres of water.  Built approximately 600-800 years ago by the residents of the area, it measures about 1.3 miles (7,000 feet) long and forms a complete circle around the pond.  Building it required hundreds, if not thousands, of committed residents to pass and stack rocks and coral for approximately 2-3 years to complete the massive wall.

Now, no matter where you are, you can take a virtual tour. A new iPhone app created by the University of Hawaii at Manoa's Hawaii Institute of Marine Biology allows users to virtually visit one of Oahu's most historic Hawaiian fishponds wherever they are in the world.

The free app is called Loko Ia-Hawaiian for "fishpond."
3. Da Secret Sauce

Spotted in the latest Hana Hou magazine, Da Secret Sauce is fast becoming a favorite of Chili Pepper aficionados.  An ono blend of chili peppers and garlic.

Their website give us some great ways to enjoy:

Splashing... Ramen\Saimin whatever you call your noodles, we can say you will no longer eat your noodles the same. Once you Splash on Da Secret Sauce you will turn your 99 cent noodles into something amazing. Also splashing on cooked fish, poke, meats, and vegetables. More>
4. Kailua General Store

Okay, he is family, but we just have to share-- Steve Parker's new shop, Kailua General Store.

An awesome community gathering place, lots of local, made in Hawai`i stuff, and a great place to enjoy really good shave ice without the crowds (walk to the back of the store and check out the beautiful marsh too).  Going to visit mainland family? Perfect place for local omiyage too. Fresh tropical flowers too.

And visit 3rd Ave Shore when you go. Another can't miss. On Hamakua next to Outrigger Connection. Look for the red muffler sign.
5. Jewel or Juice

In contention for best smoothies and acai bowls in Kailua (along with Lanikai Juice of course). In Kaimuki and in Kailua on Uluniu St.
